Bhopal/Ujjain: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav on Sunday said that listening to the Shrimad Bhagwat Katha helps alleviate human suffering and paves the way for spiritual growth, while announcing a series of development and religious tourism initiatives during the concluding ceremony of a seven-day Bhagwat Katha held in Tankariya village of Ujjain district.
Participating virtually in the event on June 7, the Chief Minister emphasized that the teachings of Lord Krishna and the messages contained in the Bhagwat Katha continue to guide society towards righteousness, harmony, and inner peace.
Bhagwat Katha Promotes Spiritual Growth and Social Harmony
Addressing devotees, Dr. Yadav said the spiritual significance of the Shrimad Bhagwat Katha is immense, as merely listening to it helps reduce human sorrows and suffering while contributing to the welfare of society and the world at large.
He noted that religious and spiritual events occupy a special place in India’s cultural traditions because they inspire people to follow ethical values, strengthen social harmony, and encourage peaceful coexistence.
According to the Chief Minister, the Bhagwat Katha serves as a divine source of knowledge that educates people about Dharma, morality, and the importance of selfless service. He added that the sacred discourse effectively communicates the teachings and ideals of Lord Krishna to the masses.
Lord Krishna’s Life a Lesson in Duty and Righteousness
Dr. Yadav highlighted that despite facing numerous challenges and hardships throughout his life, Lord Krishna remained steadfast in his commitment to righteousness and ultimately ended the tyrannical rule of King Kansa.
He urged devotees to incorporate the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita into their daily lives and draw inspiration from Lord Krishna’s unwavering dedication to truth, justice, and public welfare.
“The Bhagwat Katha acts as a sacred medium to spread Lord Krishna’s message and inspires individuals to perform their duties with honesty and devotion,” he said.
Government to Develop Grand Shri Krishna Tirth Sites
Making a significant announcement, the Chief Minister said the Madhya Pradesh government plans to develop grand Shri Krishna Tirth pilgrimage centres at places associated with Lord Krishna’s divine pastimes.
As part of this initiative, he announced the development of:
- Shri Krishna Tirth at Narayana village in Ujjain district
- Shri Krishna Tirth at the Anka-Jhanka Mataji complex in Dhar district
The projects are expected to strengthen religious tourism while preserving the cultural and spiritual heritage associated with Lord Krishna.
Road Connectivity and Local Development Announced
Responding to demands raised by local residents, Dr. Yadav announced the construction of paved roads connecting:
- Tankariya Panth village to Lepad
- Tankariya Panth village to Ranapur Phatak
The Chief Minister also sanctioned financial assistance for:
- Construction of a shed at the local Dharmashala
- Development of a Gaushala (cow shelter)
These initiatives are aimed at improving local infrastructure and supporting community welfare.
Ladli Behna Scheme and Pilgrimage Support Reaffirmed
Dr. Yadav reiterated his government’s commitment to welfare schemes and announced that financial gifts (shagun) would once again be provided to beneficiaries of the Ladli Behna Yojana during the upcoming Raksha Bandhan festival.
He also assured senior citizens that the state government would continue facilitating pilgrimage opportunities for all eligible beneficiaries under its religious tourism and welfare initiatives.

Describing the Bhagwat Katha as an important medium for spiritual awakening and cultural preservation, the Chief Minister praised the organisers, saints, and devotees for successfully conducting the seven-day religious event.
He said such programmes play a crucial role in promoting traditional values, strengthening social unity, and spreading cultural awareness among younger generations.
According to Dr. Yadav, religious discourses not only deepen spiritual consciousness but also help build a morally responsible and culturally rooted society.
