New Delh: Coal India Limited (CIL) has appointed Ms. Sona Kumari as a Non-Official Independent Director on its Board for a period of three years.
The appointment has been made by the Ministry of Coal through its letter no. 21/21/2022-Estt(B) dated July 15, 2026. The appointment will remain effective from the date of notification or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Coal India informed the stock exchanges about the appointment in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
Ms. Sona Kumari Joins Coal India Board as Independent Director
According to the company’s regulatory filing, Ms. Sona Kumari has been appointed as an Independent Director with Director Identification Number (DIN) 11835630.
The appointment is aimed at strengthening the Board’s governance structure and bringing additional expertise and perspectives to the organisation’s decision-making process.
Coal India confirmed that:
- Ms. Sona Kumari is not related to any existing Director of the company.
- She is not debarred from holding the position of Director by SEBI or any other regulatory authority.
- She does not hold any shares of Coal India Limited.
The disclosure was made under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015 and related regulatory provisions.
Profile of Ms. Sona Kumari
Ms. Sona Kumari holds a degree in Sociology from Kuwait University.
Her professional and social contributions include:
- Serving as an English teacher at Shri Guru Ramrai Saraswati Shishu Mandir.
- Participating in national-level committees.
- Mentoring non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working in education and social upliftment.
Her experience in education and social development is expected to add value to the Board’s broader governance approach.
