New Delhi: Coal India Limited (CIL) has reported a 53% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit to ₹6,516 crore for the second quarter of FY 2026-27, supported by higher revenue and improved operating performance. The state-owned coal mining company also announced a second interim dividend of ₹10.25 per equity share for the financial year.
The company’s Board of Directors approved the unaudited standalone and consolidated financial results for the quarter and half year ended September 30, 2026, at its meeting held on October 29, 2026. The results were reviewed by the Audit Committee before being taken on record by the Board.
Coal India’s September-quarter performance reflected strong year-on-year growth in revenue and profitability. However, the company reported a sequential decline in net profit compared with the June quarter and missed analyst estimates for net profit, EBITDA and operating margin.
Coal India Q2 FY27 Results: Revenue Rises 20.9%
Coal India recorded consolidated revenue of ₹44,178.7 crore in the September quarter, compared with ₹36,553.1 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year. This represents a year-on-year increase of approximately 20.9%.
The company’s operating performance also improved during the quarter, with consolidated operating profit rising 29% to ₹8,502.6 crore from ₹6,593 crore a year earlier.
The operating margin increased to 19.2% in Q2 FY27, compared with 18% in the corresponding quarter last year, indicating an improvement in operating profitability.

Profit Before Tax Increases 45.7%
Coal India’s consolidated profit before tax (PBT) rose approximately 45.7% year-on-year to ₹8,728.3 crore in the September quarter, compared with ₹5,992 crore in the year-ago period.
Consolidated net profit increased 53% to ₹6,516 crore, reflecting stronger earnings compared with the same quarter of the previous financial year.
The improvement in revenue, operating profit and profit before tax highlights the company’s stronger year-on-year financial performance. However, its results also showed that higher revenue did not prevent a sequential moderation in earnings.
Coal India Declares ₹10.25 Interim Dividend
The Board of Directors of Coal India declared a second interim dividend of ₹10.25 per equity share for FY 2026-27 at its meeting on October 29, 2026.
The dividend has been announced on equity shares with a face value of ₹10 each.
Key details of the dividend announcement are as follows:
- Dividend amount: ₹10.25 per equity share
- Financial year: FY 2026-27
- Record date: November 4, 2026
- Dividend payment deadline: On or before November 27, 2026
- Board meeting date: October 29, 2026
The record date will determine the shareholders eligible to receive the interim dividend. The company has scheduled the payment to be completed on or before November 27, 2026.
Coal India Net Profit Declines 26.4% Sequentially
Despite reporting strong year-on-year growth, Coal India recorded a decline in consolidated net profit compared with the June quarter of FY 2026-27.
The company’s consolidated net profit fell approximately 26.4% from around ₹8,852 crore in Q1 FY27 to ₹6,516 crore in Q2 FY27.
Revenue also declined sequentially by approximately 4.5%, falling from ₹46,255 crore in the June quarter to ₹44,178.7 crore in the September quarter.
The sequential decline presents a contrasting picture of the company’s financial performance. While revenue and net profit improved significantly compared with the year-ago quarter, both indicators moderated from the levels recorded in Q1 FY27.
Coal India Q2 Results Miss Analyst Estimates
Coal India’s September-quarter results also fell short of analyst estimates for net profit, EBITDA and operating margin.
Although the company recorded year-on-year growth in revenue and operating profit, the gap between actual performance and market expectations remains an important consideration for investors assessing its quarterly results.
The company’s operating margin improved to 19.2% from 18% in the corresponding quarter last year. However, the reported shortfall against analyst expectations indicates that revenue growth did not translate into performance in line with all market estimates.
Investors will continue to monitor the company’s operating costs, profitability and earnings trends in the coming quarters.
