Cochin Shipyard CMD Madhu Sankunny Nair Retires; Jose V J Takes Interim Charge

New Delhi/Kochi: Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has announced a key leadership transition with the retirement of Mr. Madhu Sankunny Nair, Chairman and Managing Director, upon his superannuation on January 31, 2026.

To ensure continuity in leadership and operations, Mr. Jose V J, currently serving as Director (Finance), has assumed the additional charge of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) with effect from February 1, 2026.

Retirement of CMD Madhu Sankunny Nair

Mr. Madhu Sankunny Nair retired from his role as CMD after completing his tenure at Cochin Shipyard Limited. During his leadership, CSL strengthened its position as one of India’s premier shipbuilding and ship repair companies, contributing significantly to the country’s maritime and defence capabilities.

The company acknowledged his contributions in steering CSL’s growth, enhancing operational capacity, and advancing strategic initiatives.

Interim Leadership Arrangement

According to an official company communication, Mr. Jose V J will hold the additional charge of CMD for a period of three months, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The interim appointment has been made to ensure smooth operational continuity and uninterrupted strategic oversight following the leadership change.

Focus on Growth, Innovation, and Maritime Excellence

Under Mr. Jose V J’s interim leadership, CSL will continue to focus on operational excellence, maritime innovation, and sustainable growth. The company aims to strengthen its global competitiveness while expanding opportunities in defence shipbuilding, commercial vessels, and ship repair.

CSL’s management and employees have expressed confidence that the transition will support the company’s ongoing mission to enhance India’s maritime strength and innovation footprint.
