Six Coal Blocks Auctioned in Latest Commercial Mining Round; ₹1,983 Crore Annual Revenue Expected

The Ministry of Coal has successfully auctioned six coal blocks under the 15th round and the second attempt of the 13th round of commercial coal mine auctions, with the projects expected to generate ₹1,983.67 crore in annual revenue and over 15,700 jobs.

New Delhi: The Ministry of Coal has successfully auctioned six coal blocks under the 15th round and the second attempt of the 13th round of commercial coal mine auctions, further advancing the government’s efforts to boost domestic coal production and strengthen India’s energy security.

The forward auctions were conducted from August 3 to 4, 2026, following the launch of the auction rounds on April 17, 2026. Of the six coal blocks auctioned, four are fully explored while two are partially explored. Together, they hold geological reserves of approximately 1,503.93 million tonnes and have a cumulative Peak Rated Capacity (PRC) of 11.62 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).

Six Coal Blocks Auctioned Across Four States

The auctioned coal blocks are located in Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.

The successful bidders are:

  • Dip Side Ext. of PKOC (Telangana) – The Singareni Collieries Company Limited.
  • Dongeri Tal-II (Madhya Pradesh) – Gallantt Ispat Limited.
  • Mandla South (Madhya Pradesh) – Qube Commercial Private Limited.
  • Margo West (Jharkhand) – Jharkhand Exploration and Mining Corporation Limited.
  • Margo East (Jharkhand) – Jharkhand Exploration and Mining Corporation Limited.
  • Tara (Revised) (Chhattisgarh) – CG Syn-Gas and Chemicals Limited.

Projects Expected to Generate Revenue and Employment

According to the Ministry, the six coal blocks are expected to:

  • Generate approximately ₹1,983.67 crore in annual revenue.
  • Attract nearly ₹1,743 crore in capital investment.
  • Create around 15,710 employment opportunities.

The Ministry said the projects are expected to contribute to economic development in coal-bearing regions while supporting industrial growth.

Commercial Coal Mining Expands Since 2020

The Ministry highlighted that since the launch of commercial coal mining in 2020, a total of 147 coal blocks have been successfully auctioned.

Collectively, these blocks have:

  • A production capacity of 377.974 million tonnes per year.
  • An estimated annual revenue of ₹48,215 crore.
  • Expected capital investment of ₹54,315 crore.
  • Potential to generate 4,89,552 employment opportunities.

Once operational, the auctioned mines are expected to significantly enhance domestic coal production and support India’s goal of achieving self-reliance in the coal sector.

Coal Ministry Reaffirms Commitment to Energy Security

The Ministry of Coal said the successful auctions reflect its continued efforts to transform the coal sector into a key driver of economic growth.

According to the Ministry, expanding commercial coal mining will help meet the country’s growing energy demand while promoting investment, employment generation and the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
