New Delhi: Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited has announced the appointment of Lalit Kumar Mohanty as its new Company Secretary and Compliance Officer, effective July 1, 2026. The decision comes following the retirement of the current Company Secretary and Compliance Officer, P Shankar, who will superannuate on June 30, 2026.
The appointment was approved by the company’s Board of Directors in a meeting held on June 26, 2026, which took place from 10:00 AM to 11:40 AM, as per regulatory filings.
Experienced Professional to Take Over Key Compliance Role
Lalit Kumar Mohanty is a seasoned corporate professional with over 25 years of experience in secretarial, legal, and taxation functions across multiple industries including telecom, steel, refractories, and oil.
He holds:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Science
- A Master’s degree in Law
- Membership of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) (Membership No. F6655)
Mohanty has been associated with CPCL since 2020, serving as Deputy Company Secretary prior to his elevation.
Strong Corporate Governance Background
Before joining CPCL, Mohanty served as Company Secretary at Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited, a Central Public Sector Undertaking. He has also worked with several reputed organizations, including:
- Tata Refractories Limited
- RPG Group of Companies
- Ortel Communications Limited
His diverse experience is expected to strengthen CPCL’s compliance and governance framework.
Regulatory Compliance and Board Disclosure
The company informed that the appointment was made in compliance with Regulation 30 of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements Regulations, 2015.
CPCL also clarified that there are no inter-se relationships between the newly appointed officer and members of the Board requiring disclosure under applicable norms.

The leadership change is part of CPCL’s structured succession planning and corporate governance framework aimed at ensuring continuity in its secretarial and compliance operations.
