New Delhi: The CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (CSIR-NIScPR) is using SARAL AI, an initiative of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), to convert research papers published in its journals into engaging videos for wider audiences.
The initiative seeks to take scientific research beyond traditional academic publications and make it more accessible to students, researchers and the general public.
CSIR-NIScPR Holds SARAL AI Workshop
As part of the initiative, CSIR-NIScPR recently organised a hands-on workshop on SARAL AI with participation from more than 90 people, including journal editors and researchers.

The initiative is being pursued under the leadership of Dr Geetha Vani Rayasam, Director, CSIR-NIScPR, as the institute explores digital platforms and emerging technologies for science communication.
“Scientific knowledge creates greater value when it reaches beyond the research community,” Rayasam said, adding that technologies such as SARAL AI can help make Indian research more accessible to diverse audiences.
How SARAL AI Is Being Used
SARAL AI is being explored as a tool to simplify research papers and turn their findings into short-form video content.
The initiative focuses on:
- Converting research published in CSIR-NIScPR journals into accessible videos.
- Making complex scientific information easier for non-specialist audiences to understand.
- Creating an additional digital channel for students and the general public to discover research.
- Expanding the reach of Indian scientific publications beyond traditional academic readership.
ANRF Pushes Wider Dissemination of Research
The initiative follows ANRF’s emphasis on making scientific knowledge more accessible to society.
During a visit to NIScPR, Dr Shivkumar Kalyanaraman, CEO, ANRF, highlighted SARAL AI’s potential to create short videos from research papers and encouraged the institute to explore the technology for communicating scientific work to the public.
“Research should not stop with publication,” Kalyanaraman said, adding that tools such as SARAL AI can help institutions take research beyond papers and expand its reach.
Videos Available Through YouTube Playlist
The videos created through the initiative are being made available through a dedicated YouTube playlist, providing another digital route for research published by CSIR-NIScPR to reach audiences.
The move comes as government science institutions increasingly explore emerging technologies to communicate research in formats that are easier for wider audiences to access and understand.
