Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav has highlighted the crucial role of engineers in the state’s infrastructure development, saying their technical expertise, innovation and problem-solving ability are helping shape a developed Madhya Pradesh.

Speaking at the State-Level Engineers’ Day Celebration at Kushabhau Thakre Auditorium in Bhopal on September 15, the Chief Minister also highlighted new initiatives in road construction, green building technology and infrastructure innovation.

A key development at the event was the signing of an MoU between CSIR-AMPRI Bhopal and the Madhya Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD) for infrastructure development. The collaboration will explore new construction technologies, including the use of fly-ash-based cement for roads.

CM Mohan Yadav Highlights India’s Engineering Legacy

Dr Mohan Yadav said India has a long history of engineering excellence and cited the contributions of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, whose life and work continue to inspire engineers.

He said historic structures across India reflect the country’s technological knowledge, creativity and craftsmanship. He referred to the Kailash Temple at Ajanta-Ellora, Dharmarajeshwar Temple in Mandsaur and other ancient structures as examples of India’s engineering and artistic heritage.

The Chief Minister also referred to architectural influences behind Parliament buildings and said Madhya Pradesh’s historical structures demonstrate the state’s deep connection with engineering and construction excellence.

Drawing an analogy between an engineer and an engine, Dr Yadav said an engineer is someone who applies knowledge, strength and capability to keep systems moving and solve problems.

He also highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, saying India has emerged as an economic power and government departments are increasingly working with confidence to establish their own identities.

PWD, CSIR-AMPRI Join Hands for Infrastructure Innovation

The MoU between CSIR-AMPRI Bhopal and the Madhya Pradesh PWD emerged as one of the key highlights of the Engineers’ Day event.

The collaboration is expected to support research and innovation in infrastructure construction. One of the proposed areas involves the use of fly-ash-based cement for road construction.

Public Works Minister Rakesh Singh said the partnership could also help develop technology for constructing concrete roads without conventional cement.

The initiative is part of the state government’s broader effort to bring technology and innovation into infrastructure development. The government is also planning to adopt green building technology for new government buildings in Madhya Pradesh.

Dr Mohan Yadav congratulated the Public Works Department for its work and said the department was increasingly using technology to develop innovative infrastructure solutions.

He added that the department’s efforts to mobilise funds for infrastructure development were significant and said its collaboration with CSIR-AMPRI could give a new direction to infrastructure development in the state.

Engineers Seen as Key to Developed Madhya Pradesh

Public Works Minister Rakesh Singh said engineering is not simply about technology but about finding solutions to problems.

He said engineers in Madhya Pradesh are working beyond existing challenges to develop new approaches and infrastructure solutions. Their work, he added, is important for achieving the larger vision of Developed India @2047.

The minister identified three qualities as particularly important for engineers — a spirit of exploration, experience and perfection.

He encouraged engineers to continuously examine their ideas and use them to generate new innovations. He also highlighted the role of the Bhaskaracharya Institute in strengthening engineering capabilities.

According to Singh, around 85 per cent of engineers across Madhya Pradesh have received training during the past nine months. He added that CM Mohan Yadav has also resolved to establish an institute in Bhopal for engineers’ training.

The minister said innovations introduced by the Madhya Pradesh PWD have already been adopted by several other states.

Roads to Connect Farmers, Students and Women With Opportunities

PWD Principal Secretary Sukhveer Singh said infrastructure development has a direct impact on people’s lives.

He said roads do more than connect places, as they help farmers reach markets, enable students to access schools and connect women with employment opportunities.

Under CM Mohan Yadav’s leadership, the state government is giving special attention to infrastructure development, he said.

The Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation (MPRDC) has completed projects worth around ₹30,000 crore, while the state has prepared an infrastructure development roadmap in line with the vision of a developed India.

The department is also incorporating expert suggestions on road safety and modern construction methods into its projects.

Singh said the fatality rate in accidents linked to identified black spots had declined comparatively over the past nine months.

MPRDC Plans ₹2 Lakh Crore Works

The state’s infrastructure expansion is also expected to continue at a significant scale.

Minister Rakesh Singh said the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation would undertake works worth around ₹2 lakh crore over the next year.

He said the government’s focus would remain on quality, technology and innovation while developing infrastructure across the state.

The minister summed up the department’s approach by saying that public welfare remains its goal, quality its identity, innovation its strength and technology its future.

Engineers Honoured for Outstanding Work

The Engineers’ Day celebration also recognised engineers for their contributions to the Public Works Department and infrastructure development.

Ishwar Singh Chandele, Manvendra Singh Sengar, Manish Kumar Sharma, Archit Lahoti, Aman Agrawal, Nitin Agrawal, Nitin Barsaiya, Rajesh Dayama, Shashank Sharma, Harshita Varshney, Deepak Namdev, Sahitya Tiwari, Anil Shrivastava, Pushkal Pratap, Mohan Kishore, Mahendra Doliya, Shivendra Singh, Ramsingh Raghuvanshi and Ashish Mandal were honoured during the programme.

Retired PWD Secretary Satish Chandra Pandey and retired Chief Engineer G.S. Palnitkar were also given special honours.
