Patna: Police raided a medical store in the Urdu Bazaar area under Kotwali police station after receiving information about the alleged sale of medicines being used for intoxication.
The raid was conducted at India Medicine Centre near Ram Janki Temple, where police recovered a large quantity of tablets and other medicines. A Drug Inspector was called to the spot to examine the seized medicines and determine whether any fall under restricted or prohibited categories.
The authorities have not yet established that the recovered medicines were prohibited or that their sale violated regulations. The classification of the medicines and compliance with applicable rules will be determined after the ongoing examination.
Youth Found With Suspected Intoxicating Medicine
According to Kotwali SHO Nitish Kumar, police noticed a youth coming out of the medical store during routine patrolling.
During a check, an intoxicating medicine was allegedly found in his possession. Police then gathered information about the medical store and received inputs that medicines allegedly used for intoxication, including tablets and cough syrups, had reportedly been sold from the shop for some time.
Based on these inputs, the police team conducted a raid at India Medicine Centre.

Drug Inspector Examines Recovered Medicines
Following the raid, a Drug Inspector reached the medical store and began examining the medicines recovered by the police.
The inspection is aimed at identifying the nature and classification of the medicines and checking whether any fall under restricted categories. Officials are also examining whether the medicines were being stored and sold in accordance with applicable regulations.
The quantity and type of medicines recovered will form part of the ongoing examination.
Licence and Sales Records Under Scrutiny
Police also questioned the medical store operator and staff members after the raid.
Documents related to the medicines are being examined by the police and Drug Department, including records concerning their procurement, storage and sale. The licence of the medical store is also being checked.
The Drug Inspector said that all recovered medicines are being examined and that further action would depend on the findings of the inspection.
Further Action After Drug Department Report
At this stage, authorities have not confirmed that all medicines recovered from the store were prohibited.
Officials will determine which medicines, if any, fall under restricted categories and whether there was any violation related to their storage or sale. The documents available with the medical store will also be examined as part of the process.
Further action against the medical store or any individuals concerned will depend on the findings of the Drug Department and the documents reviewed during the investigation.
The probe highlights the role of coordination between police and drug-control authorities in checking the alleged misuse or unauthorised sale of medicines, while ensuring that regulatory action is based on the classification of the medicines and applicable legal provisions.
