New Delhi: BrahMos missile system exports are expected to cross USD 600 million, making it one of India’s biggest defence export success stories. Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh said the supersonic missile system has become a benchmark for India’s growing defence manufacturing and export capabilities.
The statement came during an interview with ANI, where the Defence Secretary highlighted the growing international demand for the BrahMos missile and its importance in strengthening India’s position in the global defence market.
BrahMos Missile System Emerging As A Major Defence Export Success
According to Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, BrahMos is among the most advanced strategic systems that India has successfully exported to foreign countries.
He said India has already secured contracts or agreements with three Southeast Asian nations. These include the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam. The growing interest from foreign buyers reflects confidence in India’s indigenous defence technology and manufacturing capabilities.
Exports Expected To Cross USD 600 Million
The Defence Secretary revealed that BrahMos exports are likely to exceed USD 600 million. India has already delivered approximately USD 330 million worth of BrahMos missile systems to the Philippines.
For Vietnam, exports are expected to begin at around USD 100 million. Meanwhile, exports to Indonesia are projected to reach approximately USD 200 million.
Combined, these deals are expected to push total exports beyond the USD 600 million mark.
Why BrahMos Missile System Is Important For India
Rajesh Kumar Singh described BrahMos as a benchmark for India’s emerging defence export story. The missile demonstrates India’s ability to develop and manufacture advanced strategic weapons that can compete globally.
Earlier, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also described BrahMos as more than just a missile system. He called it a symbol of India’s growing indigenous defence strength.
Proven Operational Performance
The Defence Secretary noted that the BrahMos missile system has proven its effectiveness during military operations. He stated that the system performed successfully during Operation Sindoor, further increasing confidence in its capabilities. Such operational success often plays an important role in attracting international buyers.
What Makes BrahMos Missile System Special
BrahMos is one of the world’s fastest operational cruise missiles. Its supersonic speed allows it to reach targets much faster than many conventional missile systems, reducing enemy reaction time.
High Precision Strike Capability
The missile is designed to hit targets with high accuracy. Its advanced guidance system enables precise engagement of both land and maritime targets.
Multiple Launch Platforms
One of BrahMos’ biggest strengths is its flexibility. The missile can be launched from land-based systems, naval warships, submarines, and aircraft.
Successful Air-Launched Version
The Defence Secretary highlighted the success of the air-launched BrahMos variant. This version has been integrated with Sukhoi fighter aircraft and has demonstrated strong operational performance. The successful air-launched variant further expands the missile’s strategic usefulness.
Growing Demand From Southeast Asia
The Indo-Pacific region is witnessing increased interest in advanced defence systems. Countries such as the Philippines, Vietnam, and Indonesia are looking to strengthen their defence capabilities and maritime security.
BrahMos offers a combination of speed, precision, reliability, and operational flexibility, making it an attractive option for these nations.
