New Delhi: CDS General N.S. Raja Subramani stressed the need for innovation, agility, and future-readiness as warfare rapidly evolves due to emerging technologies and changing security challenges. 

The course was conducted under the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS) and brought together military officers, policymakers, industry experts, and academics to discuss the future of warfare.

The programme highlighted the importance of preparing India’s armed forces for future conflicts across land, sea, air, cyber, and space domains. 

Official statements said the course aimed to strengthen strategic thinking and military preparedness in an increasingly complex security environment.

Details of Fourth Edition Of Tri-Services Future Warfare Course

The fourth edition of the Tri-Services Future Warfare Course concluded after four weeks of intensive learning and discussions at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi.

The course was coordinated by the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS) under the aegis of HQ IDS. Officers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force participated alongside representatives from government agencies, academia, industry, and strategic institutions.

The programme was designed to examine emerging trends that are reshaping modern warfare. Participants explored how technological advancements and geopolitical developments are changing the character of military operations and national security planning.

During his interaction with participants, CDS General N.S. Raja Subramani underlined the importance of remaining agile and future-ready.

He encouraged officers and experts to continuously adapt to evolving threats and embrace innovation in military planning and operations. He also sought suggestions from participants on new subjects and emerging areas that could be included in future editions of the course.

General Raja Subramani highlighted the growing influence of advanced technologies on future battlefields. Key areas discussed included artificial intelligence (AI), cyber capabilities, autonomous systems, information warfare, space technologies, quantum technologies, and data-driven decision-making. These technologies are increasingly shaping military strategies around the world.

The curriculum covered a wide range of subjects linked to future military operations. Participants studied geopolitical developments, cognitive warfare, cyber warfare, autonomous systems, multi-domain operations, grey-zone operations, and technology-enabled warfare.

Experts emphasized that future conflicts will no longer be limited to traditional battlefields. Modern warfare increasingly extends into cyberspace, outer space, the electromagnetic spectrum, and information networks, making joint military operations more important than ever.

Importance Of Jointness And Integration

One of the major themes of the course was improving coordination among the three armed services. General Raja Subramani stressed the need for stronger integration, collaboration, and joint operational culture among the Army, Navy, and Air Force to enhance India’s defence preparedness.

The CDS has consistently promoted the vision of greater tri-service synergy, modernization, and innovation as key pillars of India’s military modernization.

The participants attended lectures, brainstorming sessions, scenario-building exercises, cognitive warfare simulations, field visits, and participant-led presentations. These activities were designed to provide practical insights into future military challenges and strategic decision-making.

Valedictory Ceremony And Certificates

The concluding ceremony included the presentation of certificates to participants. Air Marshal Tejinder Singh, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee (CISC), awarded certificates, while Lieutenant General S.S. Mahal (Retd.), Managing Director of the Defence Research and Innovation Foundation at IIT Ropar, presented participants with a PG Diploma in Future Warfare.

Tri-Services Future Warfare Course: Next Edition Scheduled For November 2026

Officials announced that the fifth edition of the Tri-Services Future Warfare Course is scheduled to be held from November 16 to December 11, 2026. The programme is expected to continue strengthening India’s military leadership and preparedness for future security challenges.
