New Delhi: The Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE), a laboratory of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), handed over three critical indigenous technologies to the Indian Armed Forces. The development strengthens India’s efforts to achieve defence self-reliance and reduce dependence on foreign suppliers. The technologies were developed through collaboration between DRDO laboratories and Indian industry partners, supporting the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision.

Details of DRDO Indian Armed Forces ToT

CVRDE, based in Chennai, formally transferred three indigenously developed technologies to the Indian Armed Forces. The technologies are designed to improve the performance, reliability, and operational readiness of military platforms used by the Army and Air Force.

The handover ceremony was attended by senior DRDO scientists, defence officials, and representatives from industry partners.

DRDO Indian Armed Forces ToT: Which Technologies Were Handed Over

The three technologies transferred by CVRDE are:

1. Co-Axial Lube Oil Filter Assembly

This technology has been developed for the Kaveri Derivative Engine. It plays an important role in maintaining lubrication and improving engine reliability. The Kaveri Derivative Engine is being adapted for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and other defence platforms.

2. Main Shaft Bearing for Small Turbo Fan Engine (STFE)

The Main Shaft Bearing has been developed for the Small Turbo Fan Engine (STFE) programme. The component is critical for ensuring durability, stability, and performance in compact propulsion systems. It will support India’s efforts to develop indigenous aero-engine technologies.

3. Indigenous Filter Elements for MiG-29K/KUB Aircraft

CVRDE also handed over Indigenous Filter Elements designed for the MiG-29K/KUB fighter aircraft. These components will help reduce reliance on imported spare parts and improve aircraft maintenance support within India. The technology is expected to enhance operational availability of the naval fighter fleet.

Why Is This Development Important

The transfer of these technologies is significant because they address key requirements in propulsion and aviation systems.

By manufacturing these components within India, the country can reduce dependence on foreign suppliers and improve supply-chain security. It also supports long-term military readiness by ensuring faster availability of critical spare parts and components.

DRDO Indian Armed Forces ToT: Collaboration Between DRDO and Industry

The technologies were developed through cooperation between several DRDO laboratories and private industry partners. Key contributors included:

  • CVRDE (Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment)
  • GTRE (Gas Turbine Research Establishment)
  • CEMILAC (Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification)
  • DGAQA (Directorate General of Aeronautical Quality Assurance)

Industry partners also played an important role in manufacturing and technology development. This collaboration highlights the growing role of Indian private companies in the defence sector.

Senior Officials Present at the Event

The handover ceremony was attended by senior defence scientists and officials. Among them were Prof. (Dr.) Prateek Kishore, Distinguished Scientist and Director General (ACE), and Dr. S. V. Ramana Murthy, Director of GTRE. Senior officers from DRDO, Naval Headquarters, and industry representatives also participated in the event.

Strengthening India’s Defence Self-Reliance

During the event, officials highlighted the need to develop critical defence technologies within India. They stressed that indigenous solutions are essential for strengthening national security and reducing dependence on overseas suppliers. The latest technology transfer demonstrates India’s growing capability to design, manufacture, and integrate advanced defence systems.

Supporting the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Mission

The handover aligns with the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Over the last few years, DRDO and Indian defence companies have accelerated efforts to localise critical technologies used in aircraft, engines, missiles, and combat systems.

These new technologies represent another step towards achieving greater self-reliance in aerospace and defence manufacturing.
