This translates to:

  • Resolve
  • Fearlessness
  • Professional Mastery

The Navy Chief urged the crew to uphold these values and remain committed to the core naval principles of Duty, Honour, and Courage.

Built In India Under Aatmanirbhar Bharat Vision

INS Nipun has been designed and built by Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), Visakhapatnam. The vessel highlights India’s growing capability to design and manufacture technologically advanced naval platforms domestically.

According to the Indian Navy, the commissioning of INS Nipun is another important step towards strengthening indigenous defence production under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Why INS Nipun Is Important

INS Nipun is not a conventional warship. It is a specialized support vessel designed for underwater operations that require advanced technology and highly trained personnel. The vessel strengthens India’s strategic preparedness in maritime operations and emergency response situations.

What are the Features of INS Nipun

INS Nipun has been purpose-built for deep-sea diving operations. The ship supports:

  • Saturation diving
  • Air diving
  • Heliox diving
  • Underwater inspection missions
  • Underwater intervention operations

The vessel is equipped with remotely operated underwater systems that help divers and operators perform complex underwater tasks safely and efficiently.

Specialized Facilities Onboard

INS Nipun includes:

These facilities enable the ship to conduct extended underwater missions in challenging maritime environments.

Major Boost To Submarine Rescue Operations

One of the most important roles of INS Nipun is submarine rescue. The vessel can respond quickly during underwater emergencies involving submarines. Together with its sister ship INS Nistar, the vessel significantly improves India’s ability to conduct submarine rescue and salvage operations. This capability is available with only a limited number of navies worldwide.

Strengthening Regional Maritime Security

The Indian Navy stated that INS Nipun enhances India’s position as a preferred submarine rescue partner in the region. The vessel can also provide support to friendly foreign navies during emergencies. This capability strengthens India’s role in regional maritime cooperation and security.

Support For Humanitarian And Disaster Relief Missions

Apart from military operations, INS Nipun can also assist in:

  • Underwater salvage operations
  • Maritime emergency response
  • Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) missions

These capabilities make the vessel a valuable asset during natural disasters and maritime accidents.

Naval Leadership Highlights Strategic Importance

Admiral Krishna Swaminathan said the successful induction of INS Nipun demonstrates the strong partnership between the Indian Navy, Hindustan Shipyard Limited, and India’s defence industry. He noted that the vessel’s successful sea trials and commissioning reflect India’s growing engineering expertise and technological confidence.
