New Delhi: Delhi is set to get 244 new government residences for judges and IAS officers as the authorities move to address the shortage of official accommodation for senior government and judicial officials.
The two projects will come up in Surajmal Vihar in East Delhi and Bahadurpur village near Sarita Vihar. Together, the projects are estimated to cost more than ₹500 crore.
Along with residential units, the planned complexes will include supporting infrastructure such as parking facilities, internal roads, electricity infrastructure and green areas.
84 Government Houses to Come Up for Judges in Surajmal Vihar
A total of 84 government residences for judicial officers will be constructed near Surajmal Vihar in Shahdara, East Delhi.
The project is estimated to cost around ₹200 crore and will be developed on approximately one hectare of land.
The residential complex will include separate accommodation for district judges and civil judges, with the units planned in different sizes.

- Location: Surajmal Vihar, Shahdara, East Delhi
- Estimated cost: Around ₹200 crore
- Land area: Approximately 1 hectare
- District judge residences: Around 2,500 sq ft
- Civil judge residences: Around 2,000 sq ft
- Implementing agency: Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC)
The location is also expected to provide convenient access to judicial officers as the residential complex will be situated close to the Karkardooma Court complex.
160 Government Residences Planned for IAS Officers in Bahadurpur
The second project involves the construction of 160 government residences for IAS officers at Bahadurpur village.
The Public Works Department (PWD) has prepared the proposal for the project, which has received approval from the Expenditure Finance Committee.
The project has an estimated cost of ₹319.72 crore.
The planned residential complex will comprise:
- 80 Type-V residences
- 80 Type-VI residences
- Underground parking
- Community building
- Electrical substation
- Internal roads
- Green areas
The development is aimed at increasing the availability of government accommodation for IAS officers in Delhi while providing supporting civic and residential infrastructure within the complex.
Bahadurpur Housing Project to Be Completed in 30 Months
A period of six months has been earmarked for the planning phase before construction begins on the Bahadurpur project.
Once construction starts, the project is targeted for completion within 30 months.
The proposed expenditure for the project has been distributed across three financial years:
- 2026-27: ₹25 crore
- 2027-28: ₹175 crore
- 2028-29: ₹119.72 crore
The phased expenditure plan will support the construction and development of the residential complex and its associated infrastructure.
Projects to Include Parking, Roads and Green Areas
The two residential projects are not limited to the construction of housing units. Supporting infrastructure will also be developed as part of the planned complexes.
The facilities include:
- Parking arrangements
- Internal roads
- Electricity infrastructure
- Green spaces
- Community facilities
The inclusion of these facilities is intended to provide complete residential complexes for the officials who will be accommodated in the new government housing.
New Housing Projects to Address Accommodation Shortage
The construction of 244 new government residences is expected to increase the availability of official accommodation for judges and IAS officers in Delhi.
The Surajmal Vihar project will cater to judicial officers, while the Bahadurpur project will provide residences for IAS officers.
Together, the projects represent an estimated investment of more than ₹500 crore and are aimed at strengthening the government housing infrastructure available to senior officials in the national capital.
With dedicated residential units, parking, roads, electricity facilities and green spaces, the projects are planned as integrated government housing developments rather than standalone residential buildings.
