New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday inaugurated the new Electric Receiving Sub Station (RSS) at Park Street, developed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The state-of-the-art facility is set to ensure uninterrupted power supply to critical metro corridors and support future metro expansion projects in Delhi.

RSS to Power Airport Line, Violet Line, and Upcoming Metro Projects

The new RSS will supply traction and auxiliary power to metro trains and stations on the Airport Line and Violet Line (Line-6). Additionally, 25 kV feeders have been provisioned to meet the traction power requirements of the upcoming Central Vista Metro Line (Indraprastha to R K Ashram Marg) under DMRC’s Phase-5A expansion project.

Reconstruction as Part of Central Vista Project

The original Park Street RSS, commissioned in 2010 during Delhi Metro Phase-2, was dismantled in 2021–22 to facilitate the Central Vista Project. Reconstruction began in 2023 on alternate land provided by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and was completed in December 2025.

State-of-the-Art Equipment and Technical Upgrades

All major electrical equipment from the original substation has been re-erected and commissioned, including:

  • 66 kV power transformers
  • 66 kV GIS panels
  • 33 kV panels
  • 25 kV GIS panels

The RSS also incorporates an upgraded Substation Automation System, energy-efficient VRF air-conditioning, and LED lighting, enhancing both efficiency and sustainability.

Advanced Safety and Green Initiatives

The Park Street RSS is equipped with automatic fire protection systems for transformers and electrical panels, along with a fully addressable fire alarm system, ensuring operational reliability and safety.

Designed in line with green building compliance standards, the substation has applied for green certification. A solar rooftop power system is also planned to reduce the carbon footprint of operations.

Commitment to Modern, Sustainable Metro Infrastructure

The completion of the Park Street RSS under the Central Vista Project underscores DMRC’s commitment to building modern, safe, and sustainable urban transport infrastructure, ensuring reliable power supply for Delhi Metro’s growing network.
