Delhi: The Delhi Government on Sunday inaugurated a series of development projects worth Rs 100 crore in the RK Puram Assembly constituency, aiming to upgrade civic infrastructure, public amenities, and community facilities. The projects were inaugurated by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who emphasized that funding would not be a constraint for development anywhere in the capital.
Comprehensive Civic Upgrades Across RK Puram
The newly launched works cover a wide spectrum of civic improvements, including:
- Road reconstruction and repair of internal roads
- Renovation of old and dilapidated chaupals
- Modernization of community centres
- Beautification and development of neighbourhood parks
- Installation of open-air gym equipment to promote fitness
- Construction of boundary walls at vulnerable locations
The projects are designed to provide residents with safer, cleaner, and more accessible public spaces, while enhancing the overall urban environment.
Focus on Inclusive Development
Addressing residents, CM Gupta highlighted that the government has adopted a comprehensive, area-based development approach to ensure tangible improvements in daily life. She stressed that the government’s focus is on inclusive and dignified development, especially in areas with underserved populations, such as jhuggi clusters and low-income settlements.
“The government will not remove settlements but will improve living conditions by providing essential services such as permanent housing, toilets, paved roads, proper drainage, and recreational spaces for children,” she said.
Financial Support and Governance Initiatives
CM Gupta stated that nearly Rs 700 crore has been released to ensure development works of around Rs 10 crore per Assembly constituency. She highlighted that this funding ensures uniform access to modern amenities across income groups, benefiting residents of jhuggi clusters, middle-class areas, and affluent neighbourhoods alike.
In addition to civic works, she listed broader governance initiatives, including:
- Revival of stalled welfare schemes and pension programs
- Issuance of new ration cards
- Expansion of electricity connections to previously unserved properties
- Environmental initiatives such as Yamuna cleaning campaigns, landfill waste removal, air pollution reduction, and introduction of electric buses
CM Gupta emphasized that the pace of change in Delhi has accelerated over the past 11 months, with residents set to witness visible transformations in public services and infrastructure in the coming years.
Community Engagement and Oversight
Local representatives welcomed the projects, noting that they will address long-standing civic issues such as poor road conditions, insufficient community spaces, and lack of recreational facilities in densely populated areas. Officials confirmed that the progress and quality of the works will be closely monitored to ensure timely completion.
The inauguration event was attended by Member of Parliament Bansuri Swaraj, RK Puram MLA Anil Sharma, Municipal Councillor Dharamveer Singh, District BJP President Ravindra Chaudhary, senior local officials, and several residents.
Towards a Clean, Modern, and Inclusive Capital
CM Gupta concluded by stating, “We have completed only 11 months, but the direction is clear. Delhi will become a clean, green, modern, and well-developed capital.” The RK Puram projects are seen as a model for inclusive urban development, combining infrastructure upgrades with social welfare and environmental sustainability.
