New Delhi: The Delhi government is planning to establish a state-of-the-art medical college in Dwarka, Sector 17, with an estimated cost of ₹806 crore. The proposal was discussed in a recent meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, highlighting the government’s focus on strengthening medical education and healthcare infrastructure in the city.
World-Class Facilities for Students and Faculty
The new medical college will feature:
- An eight-storey academic building
- Separate hostels for MBBS students, accommodating 338 boys and 338 girls
- Hostels for postgraduate students and trainees
- Residential quarters for faculty, including Type 4, Type 5, and Type 6 accommodations
- Sports grounds and recreational facilities
The academic block will include four lecture halls with a capacity of 180 people each, practical laboratories, smaller teaching classrooms for 25 students, and a central library with seating for 300 individuals.
Modern and Green Infrastructure
The medical college will be a green building, incorporating energy-efficient and eco-friendly features:
- High-performance LED lighting
- Thermal insulation and weather-resistant construction
- High solar reflectance coating
- Rainwater harvesting and sewage treatment plant
- Rooftop solar panels
- Smart classrooms with interactive displays, lecture theater with enhanced audio, CCTV monitoring, access control, and EV charging infrastructure
These features aim to provide a modern, sustainable, and secure learning environment for students and faculty alike.
Focus on Medical Education and Healthcare in Delhi
The Delhi government has also proposed redevelopment plans for Maulana Azad Medical College and Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Medical College. A preliminary proposal worth ₹13.44 crore for consultancy services has been submitted for government approval, which includes:
- Structural audits of buildings constructed before 2000
- Planning, designing, and construction of new buildings
The new college in Dwarka is expected to increase the number of trained doctors, improve healthcare services for residents of South-West Delhi, and support Delhi’s vision of becoming a medical education hub.

Once completed, the college will provide thousands of students with quality medical education and enhance employment opportunities in the healthcare sector.
