New Delhi: In a major initiative to enhance the cultural and artistic identity of the historic Delhi Gate area, the Delhi government on Monday inaugurated the “Shri Parth Sarathi Rath” at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg. The ceremony was graced by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena, along with Delhi ministers Pravesh Sahib Singh, MLA Tarvinder Singh Marwah, and several other dignitaries.
The project, executed by the Public Works Department (PWD), is aimed at beautifying Delhi’s historic precincts while emphasizing the city’s rich cultural heritage.
Enhancing the Beauty and Orderliness of Delhi
Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena said that transforming Delhi into a clean, beautiful, and well-organized city is a shared responsibility. He added that the construction of the Shri Parth Sarathi Rath involved months of meticulous planning and execution by a team of experts and engineers. The structure, designed to be both aesthetically appealing and structurally robust, is expected to last for approximately 50 years.
He emphasized that such initiatives not only enhance the city’s beauty but also strengthen its cultural and historical identity.
Symbolism and Cultural Significance
The Shri Parth Sarathi Rath commemorates the ancient legacy of Lord Krishna serving as Arjuna’s charioteer during the Mahabharata. CM Rekha Gupta highlighted that these cultural installations at public spaces serve as reminders of India’s timeless traditions, connecting new generations with the roots of civilization.
“This rath is not just an artistic addition but a symbol of duty, righteousness, and justice, reflecting Delhi’s heritage as the ancient city of Indraprastha,” she said.
Delhi Gate Area Gets a New Cultural Landmark
CM Gupta emphasized that Delhi Gate and Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg hold immense historical and cultural significance. The creation of the Shri Parth Sarathi Rath aims to strengthen the area’s identity, aesthetic appeal, and tourist attraction. She further noted that the Delhi government is committed to providing well-maintained, clean, and attractive public spaces for citizens and visitors.
The project is part of a larger vision to develop parks, beautify streets, and install artistic structures across the city, making Delhi a globally recognized hub for heritage and culture.

- Beautify historic areas of Delhi.
