New Delhi: Days after the deadly building collapse at Satya Niketan, Delhi Police teams visited paying guest (PG) accommodations in Rajendra Nagar, a major UPSC coaching hub, to interact with students and understand their concerns about building safety, security and other issues.
The outreach was carried out by multiple police teams, including personnel from the Rajendra Nagar police station, as part of a wider Delhi Police initiative to engage with students living in PGs and rented accommodations.
Police Interact With UPSC Aspirants
During the visits, police personnel spoke to students staying in PG accommodations and sought information about problems they may be facing.

The interactions focused on:
- Safety and security concerns inside PG accommodations
- The condition of buildings where students are residing
- Personal safety and emergency-related concerns
- Encouraging students to approach the police whenever they require assistance
A senior police officer said Rajendra Nagar already remains under heightened police surveillance because of its large student population and its history of safety concerns involving coaching-centre areas.
“Following the death of three UPSC aspirants after rainwater entered a basement, the security is already high in this area,” the officer said.
“We are now connecting with students who are staying in the PGs and asking them if they have any problem. We are with all the students and they can call us any time,” he added.
Outreach Expanded Across Delhi
The police initiative is not limited to Rajendra Nagar. Teams across the national capital have also been reaching out to students staying in PGs and other rented accommodation.
The exercise comes amid renewed scrutiny of student housing in Delhi following the September 6 Satya Niketan building collapse, in which seven people were killed. The incident has triggered wider discussions on the safety and regulation of PG accommodations across the capital.
Delhi authorities have separately moved towards structural audits and a regulatory framework for PG accommodations in major student hubs, including Rajendra Nagar, Mukherjee Nagar, Laxmi Nagar and Satya Niketan.
