Delhi Police Reshuffle: Senior IPS Officers Devesh Srivastava Appointed DG Prisons, Anil Shukla DG Home Guards | Career & Profiles

New Delhi: In a significant administrative reshuffle within the Delhi Police setup, senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers Devesh Chandra Srivastava and Anil Shukla have been appointed to key leadership roles. Devesh Srivastava has been given the charge of Director General (Prisons), while Anil Shukla has been appointed Director General (Home Guards).

Both officers have been assigned these responsibilities as additional charge, alongside their existing duties, until regular incumbents are posted to the respective positions. The appointments take effect immediately, according to an official communication issued by the Home Department of the Government of NCT of Delhi.

Current Postings of the Officers

  • Mr Srivastava, a 1995-batch IPS officer, is presently serving as Special Commissioner of Police (Crime), Delhi Police.
  • Mr Shukla, a 1996-batch IPS officer, is currently posted as Special Commissioner of Police (Special Cell).

Both officers belong to the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh–Goa–Mizoram and Union Territory) cadre.

Devesh Chandra Srivastava Takes Charge as DG Prisons

Mr Srivastava has been appointed Director General (Prisons), overseeing the prison administration in Delhi, including Tihar Jail. As of February 2026, he holds the additional responsibility while continuing his role in Delhi Police.

Background and Career

A native of Kolghat village in Azamgarh district, Uttar Pradesh, Srivastava is a highly experienced officer with decades of service. His appointment as DGP of Mizoram in 2022 was widely celebrated in his hometown.

He has earlier served in several critical roles, including:

  • DGP, Mizoram
  • DGP, Andaman and Nicobar Islands (2023)
  • Special Commissioner, Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Delhi Police
  • Joint Commissioner of Police (South), Delhi
  • Deputation in Intelligence Bureau and ONGC

Educational Background

IPS Srivastava completed his education in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, and holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology (MMMUT). After completing his engineering studies, he qualified for the UPSC Civil Services Examination and joined the IPS in 1995.

Anil Shukla Appointed DG Home Guards

Senior IPS officer Shukla has been appointed Director General (Home Guards) as an additional charge. He continues to serve as Special Commissioner of Police (Special Cell), Delhi Police, where he also holds additional charge of the Technical and Project Implementation (PI) division.

Professional Career and Major Roles

Anil Shukla has an extensive background in counter-terrorism, internal security, and high-profile investigations.

Key roles held by him include:

  • Special Commissioner of Police, Special Cell, Delhi Police (since October 2025)
  • Director General of Police, Mizoram (June 2023 to June 2025)
  • Inspector General, National Investigation Agency (NIA) (2015–2021)
  • ADGP, Andaman and Nicobar Islands
  • Various senior postings in Arunachal Pradesh and Puducherry

At the NIA, Shukla led or supervised several landmark investigations, including:

  • Pulwama terror attack case
  • Jammu & Kashmir terror funding case, which led to the arrest of Hurriyat leaders
  • Antilia explosives (Ambani bomb scare) case and the probe into Sachin Waze
