New Delhi: Two separate developments involving the Delhi Police have drawn attention, with plainclothes Special Branch personnel inadvertently revealing their identities at a Kuki-Zo community conference and an AGMUT-cadre IPS officer reportedly facing a fresh inquiry over allegations of misconduct by a subordinate.
According to a report in The Indian Express, the first incident occurred on Wednesday at the Constitution Club in New Delhi, where organisers of a Kuki-Zo conference asked attendees, including journalists, to introduce themselves.
In a separate development, a police inspector reportedly contacted the police control room (PCR), alleging that his senior officer had misbehaved with him. The complaint prompted senior officials at Delhi Police headquarters to order a fact-finding inquiry.
Special Branch Personnel Identified During Introductions
The conference took an unexpected turn when three plainclothes police personnel seated among journalists introduced themselves after the organisers asked everyone in attendance to identify themselves.
Their introductions reportedly drew laughter and murmurs from the gathering, as the three were identified as Special Branch officers of the Delhi Police.
The officers were apparently present to monitor the event and gather information about the proceedings.
The incident highlighted how a routine introduction at the conference led to the identities of the plainclothes personnel becoming known to those present.
AGMUT-Cadre IPS Officer Faces Fresh Fact-Finding Inquiry
In a separate development, an AGMUT-cadre IPS officer is reportedly facing another inquiry after a police inspector lodged a complaint alleging misconduct by his senior.
According to the report, the inspector contacted the police control room and alleged that the officer had misbehaved with him, leaving him distressed and pushing him into what he described as depression.
After senior officials at Delhi Police headquarters learnt about the complaint, a fact-finding inquiry was ordered to examine the matter.
The latest complaint comes as the IPS officer is already reportedly facing a separate sexual harassment inquiry relating to allegations made by a junior woman police constable during his posting in Arunachal Pradesh.
Earlier Sexual Harassment Allegations
A woman police constable had accused a then Superintendent of Police posted in Arunachal Pradesh of sexual harassment in 2023. She approached the workplace complaints mechanism in June that year, alleging that the officer had sent her inappropriate messages and attempted to contact her through WhatsApp.
A complaint was subsequently referred for further inquiry. The officer was later transferred to Delhi, and the matter was pursued through the relevant inquiry mechanism.
Inquiry to Examine the Inspector’s Complaint
The fresh inquiry follows the complaint made through the police control room and the subsequent intervention of senior Delhi Police officials.
