Delhi: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta celebrated her first Republic Day in office by approving development projects worth ₹327 crore for slum and jhuggi jhopri (JJ) clusters across Delhi. The initiative aims to improve basic infrastructure, health, sanitation, and living conditions in these areas.
CM Hosts Slum Representatives for Lunch
As part of the celebrations, CM Rekha Gupta invited BJP representatives from slums and JJ clusters to her official residence for lunch. During the event, she inaugurated several infrastructure projects aimed at transforming the living conditions of residents in these communities.
“This government is committed to improving the living standards of citizens residing in JJ clusters,” the Chief Minister said, emphasizing that the administration is working day and night to ensure the benefits of development reach every corner of the city.
Projects Approved for JJ Cluster Development
Officials confirmed that works worth ₹44 crore have already been awarded. The projects include:
- Public convenience complexes
- Cement concrete (CC) works in JJ lanes
- Atal Canteens
- Ayushman Arogya Mandirs
CM Gupta highlighted that these initiatives are part of a broader plan to provide basic amenities, housing, health, sanitation, and social welfare to slum residents.
CM Criticizes Previous Government
During her address, CM Rekha Gupta criticized the previous AAP-led government, claiming that former CM Arvind Kejriwal treated slum residents as a mere vote bank. She said the former administration ignored basic facilities such as sewer lines, water pipelines, and electricity in JJ areas, leaving residents in poor living conditions.
“The previous government lived in luxury while ignoring the struggles of slum dwellers. Our government considers their struggles as our own and is dedicated to serving them,” Gupta said.
Budget Allocation and Future Plans
The BJP government has allocated ₹700 crore for JJ development in Delhi. The CM shared that a comprehensive development plan has been prepared to ensure the provision of:
- Proper drains and roads
- Toilets and sanitation facilities
- Parks and green spaces
- Settlement development centres
“These works are being prioritized and implemented rapidly to improve the living conditions of JJ residents,” said Gupta.

The Republic Day program was attended by several key officials, including:
- Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood
- Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva
- DUSIB CEO Rupesh Thakur
The CM’s initiative reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive development, aiming to uplift the lives of Delhi’s slum population and provide them with dignified living conditions.
