New Delhi: The Delhi Government has announced a major welfare initiative aimed at improving the living conditions of slum dwellers in the capital. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has declared a ₹700 crore budget allocation for the rehabilitation and redevelopment of slum settlements across Delhi.
The announcement was made during a public event on Sunday, where the Chief Minister outlined the government’s commitment to providing better housing and basic infrastructure for slum residents.
₹700 Crore Budget to Transform Slum Areas in Delhi
The allocated budget will be used for:
- Rehabilitation of slum dwellers
- Construction of pucca (permanent) houses
- Development of basic civic infrastructure

During the event, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched a sharp criticism of opposition parties, particularly the Aam Aadmi Party.
She alleged that previous governments failed to take meaningful steps for slum development and used slum residents as a political vote base rather than implementing long-term solutions.
She further stated that earlier administrations did not bring visible improvements in slum living conditions.
Appeal to Slum Residents for Trust in Government Schemes
The Chief Minister appealed to slum dwellers not to fall for misleading information and to trust government welfare programmes.
She assured that the administration is working with full commitment to:
- Rehabilitate slum populations
