New Delhi: The Delhi Government has announced a major welfare initiative aimed at improving the living conditions of slum dwellers in the capital. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has declared a ₹700 crore budget allocation for the rehabilitation and redevelopment of slum settlements across Delhi.

The announcement was made during a public event on Sunday, where the Chief Minister outlined the government’s commitment to providing better housing and basic infrastructure for slum residents.

₹700 Crore Budget to Transform Slum Areas in Delhi

The allocated budget will be used for:

  • Rehabilitation of slum dwellers
  • Construction of pucca (permanent) houses
  • Development of basic civic infrastructure
  • Improvement of living standards in slum clusters

Officials stated that the initiative is designed to ensure long-term urban development while addressing housing inequality in the capital.

Pucca Houses for Eligible Slum Residents

The Chief Minister clarified that if any slum is cleared due to development projects, eligible residents will be provided permanent housing under government rehabilitation schemes.

She assured that:

  • No eligible citizen will be left homeless
  • Housing support will be provided as per government norms
  • Rehabilitation will be carried out in a planned and transparent manner

The scheme is being implemented with support from the central government, including financial arrangements.

Government Focus on Inclusive Urban Development

The Delhi Government stated that the initiative is part of its broader strategy to promote inclusive urban development. The goal is to ensure that slum dwellers receive access to:

  • Safe and permanent housing
  • Clean drinking water and sanitation
  • Better civic amenities
  • Improved living conditions

Officials emphasized that the project aims to integrate slum communities into mainstream urban infrastructure.

CM Rekha Gupta Attacks Opposition Over Slum Policies

During the event, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched a sharp criticism of opposition parties, particularly the Aam Aadmi Party.

She alleged that previous governments failed to take meaningful steps for slum development and used slum residents as a political vote base rather than implementing long-term solutions.

She further stated that earlier administrations did not bring visible improvements in slum living conditions.

Appeal to Slum Residents for Trust in Government Schemes

The Chief Minister appealed to slum dwellers not to fall for misleading information and to trust government welfare programmes.

She assured that the administration is working with full commitment to:

  • Rehabilitate slum populations
  • Improve their quality of life
  • Provide permanent housing solutions
  • Ensure fair implementation of schemes

Major Push for Slum Redevelopment in Delhi

The ₹700 crore allocation marks a significant step in Delhi’s urban development strategy. If implemented effectively, the initiative is expected to provide thousands of slum families with permanent homes and improved living conditions, contributing to a more inclusive and structured urban environment.
