Srinagar: Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat, an IPS officer of 1992 batch, on Saturday briefed 21 Indian Police Service (IPS) probationers of the 78th Regular Recruit Batch on the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s counter-terrorism strategy, highlighting the force’s operational excellence, intelligence-driven policing, and sacrifices in combating Pakistan-sponsored terrorism in the Union Territory.

The interaction, held at the Police Headquarters in Srinagar, formed part of the trainees’ study tour to Jammu and Kashmir under their foundational training programme. The session aimed to familiarise young IPS officers with the region’s unique security environment and the operational framework adopted by the J&K Police to counter terrorism and maintain public order.

Focus on Intelligence-Based Counter-Terror Operations

Senior officers of the Jammu and Kashmir Police gave the probationary officers a comprehensive overview of the force’s intelligence-led operational model, which has played a crucial role in identifying and neutralising terrorist networks.

The officers explained how real-time surveillance systems, intelligence gathering, and close coordination among multiple security agencies have strengthened anti-terror operations across the Union Territory.

The trainees were also introduced to the multi-layered counter-insurgency grid, which combines technology, intelligence inputs, and coordinated field operations to respond effectively to evolving security threats.

DGP Highlights Sacrifices of J&K Police Personnel

During his address, DGP Nalin Prabhat underlined the immense sacrifices made by Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel in the fight against terrorism over the years.

He said the force has consistently displayed exceptional courage, professionalism, and commitment while confronting Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and safeguarding the lives of citizens.

The officers also briefed the trainees about the operational challenges faced by personnel deployed in militancy-affected areas and the resilience demonstrated by the force in maintaining law and order under difficult circumstances.

Leadership and Community Policing Stressed

Addressing the IPS probationers, DGP Prabhat emphasised that leadership, adaptability, and strong community engagement are essential qualities for policing in conflict-affected regions.

He urged the young officers to understand the importance of winning public trust while carrying out security operations and adapting to the changing nature of terror threats.

According to officials, the interaction also focused on the need for modern policing techniques and technology-driven investigations to strengthen internal security.

Interactive Session on Emerging Security Challenges

The orientation concluded with an interactive discussion during which the IPS trainees exchanged views with senior officers on policing in volatile environments and the evolving challenges posed by terrorism.

The DGP encouraged the officers to draw lessons from the extensive operational experience of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, which is widely regarded as one of India’s most battle-tested police forces due to its prolonged engagement in counter-insurgency operations.

The study tour is part of the trainees’ foundational curriculum designed to expose future IPS officers to diverse policing environments and equip them with practical insights into handling complex law-and-order situations.
