New Delhi: DVC CIL Power Private Limited, a 50:50 joint venture between Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) and Coal India Limited (CIL), has signed a Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP) with L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions for the main plant package of the 2×800 MW Chandrapura Thermal Power Station (DC CTPS) in Jharkhand.
The agreement marks an important step towards advancing the 1,600 MW Chandrapura thermal power project, which will use ultra-supercritical technology to improve generation efficiency and reduce specific emissions.
1,600 MW Chandrapura Thermal Power Project
The Chandrapura Thermal Power Station will comprise two ultra-supercritical units, each with a capacity of 800 MW.

Under the LNTP, L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions will undertake major activities related to the main plant package.
Its scope will cover:
- Design and engineering
- Manufacturing
- Supply
- Erection
- Testing
- Commissioning
The main equipment covered under the package includes boilers, steam turbines, generators and Electrostatic Precipitators (ESPs).
Ultra-Supercritical Technology to Improve Efficiency
The Chandrapura project will use ultra-supercritical technology, which operates at higher temperature and pressure conditions compared with conventional thermal power technology.
The technology is designed to offer:
- Higher thermal efficiency
- Lower specific emissions
- Improved utilisation of fuel
- More efficient power generation
The adoption of advanced technology is part of the project’s focus on efficient and modern thermal power generation.
Project to Progress After Applicable Conditions
DVC CIL Power Private Limited stated that the project will move to the next stage after fulfilment of the applicable conditions.
These include obtaining the required environmental clearance and completion of the LNTP period.
The signing of the LNTP provides a framework for progressing the main plant package while the stipulated conditions and formalities are completed.

DVC said the project represents an important step in its efforts to expand power generation capacity through advanced and efficient technologies.
