Asansol: Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) celebrated the 52nd Foundation Day of Coal India Limited (CIL) and ECL with a series of initiatives highlighting its mining legacy, employee achievements and digital transformation. A major highlight of the celebrations was the launch of ‘ECL Swavalamban (Non-Ex)’, an online transfer management portal for non-executive employees. The company also received the prestigious Safety Award and Corporate Performance Award at the Coal India-level celebrations in Kolkata.

The Foundation Day celebrations were held at ECL Headquarters in Sanctoria, with Director (Human Resources) Gunjan Kumar Sinha attending as the Chief Guest and Director (Technical–Operations) Chitranjan Kumar as the Guest of Honour. Senior officials, employees and trade union representatives were also present.

ECL Launches Swavalamban Digital Transfer Portal for Non-Executive Employees

One of the key highlights of ECL’s 52nd Foundation Day celebrations was the launch of ‘ECL Swavalamban (Non-Ex)’, a self-service digital transfer management portal designed to bring greater transparency, efficiency and accountability to the transfer process for non-executive employees.

The portal was inaugurated by Director (HR) Gunjan Kumar Sinha at Sankalp Hall in the presence of representatives from the Joint Consultative Committee, Welfare Board, Safety Board and senior officials.

The new digital platform replaces the conventional paper-based transfer system with a secure and digitally monitored process. It allows non-executive employees to submit and track their transfer applications online, ensuring greater accessibility and transparency.

Key Features of the ECL Swavalamban Portal

The newly launched portal includes several features to simplify employee transfer management:

  • Online Applications: Non-executive employees can submit their transfer applications digitally.
  • Application Tracking: Employees can monitor the status of their transfer requests online.
  • OTP-Based Authentication: The system uses OTP-based verification to ensure secure access.
  • Simultaneous Processing: Incoming and outgoing Area General Managers can process applications simultaneously.
  • Defined Timelines: Applications are designed to reach Headquarters for final approval within a maximum of 50 days from submission.
  • Digital Transfer Orders: The portal facilitates the generation of secure, bilingual and digitally traceable transfer orders.

Speaking on the initiative, Director (HR) Gunjan Kumar Sinha highlighted the importance of simplifying administrative procedures and ensuring transparent and timely service delivery.

The digital platform is expected to reduce procedural delays, minimise paperwork and strengthen employee confidence in the transfer management system.

Foundation Day Celebrations Highlight ECL’s Mining Legacy and Digital Transformation

The Foundation Day programme began with ceremonial flag hoisting and floral tributes at the martyrs’ memorial, paying homage to the sacrifices of coal miners.

Dignitaries and trade union representatives were welcomed with saplings, reflecting ECL’s commitment to environmental sustainability. Cultural performances added to the celebrations, while the announcement of promotions across various disciplines recognised the dedication and contributions of employees.

Operating in the historic Raniganj Coalfield, ECL holds a significant place in India’s mining history. Commercial coal mining in India began in the Raniganj Coalfield in 1774, making the region an important part of the country’s industrial and energy development.

The celebrations brought together ECL’s long-standing mining heritage and its focus on modern priorities, including digital governance, employee welfare, workplace safety and sustainable development.

As Coal India Limited completes 52 years, ECL’s initiatives reflect the changing priorities of the coal sector, where technological innovation and employee empowerment are becoming increasingly important alongside traditional mining operations.

With the launch of a digital transfer portal, national-level recognition for safety and corporate performance, and awards for outstanding employees, ECL reaffirmed its commitment to building a safer, more efficient and employee-centric organisation while contributing to India’s energy security and economic growth.
