New Delhi: Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) has reported strong operational performance in September 2026, maintaining production and despatch activities despite challenging monsoon conditions. The company recorded coal production of 35.17 lakh tonnes during September, taking its progressive production up to the month to 222.70 lakh tonnes.
The cumulative production figure represents a growth of 9.53% over the corresponding period of the previous year. ECL also achieved its highest-ever single-day road despatch of 26,637 tonnes on October 1, 2026, reflecting its continued focus on operational efficiency and coal movement.
The performance highlights the collective efforts of the company’s workforce to maintain operational continuity while prioritising productivity, technological advancement and safety.
ECL Records 222.70 Lakh Tonnes of Coal Production Till September
ECL produced 35.17 lakh tonnes of coal in September 2026. Its progressive production up to September reached 222.70 lakh tonnes, registering 9.53% growth compared with the corresponding period last year.
Despite challenging monsoon conditions, the company maintained operational continuity and delivered growth in its coal production performance.

Sodepur Area Leads ECL’s Q2 Performance
In the company’s second-quarter performance assessment, Sodepur Area secured the first position with a score of 90.70. SP Mines Area ranked second with 85.81, followed by Salanpur Area in third place with 82.57.
The rankings highlight the performance of these areas across the operational parameters assessed by the company.
The top-performing areas were:
- First: Sodepur Area – 90.70
- Second: SP Mines Area – 85.81
- Third: Salanpur Area – 82.57
These results reflect the contribution of individual operating areas to ECL’s overall performance.
Kajora, Jhanjra and Kunustoria Lead Special Performance Categories
ECL also recognised area-level achievements across specialised operational parameters, including equipment productivity, continuous miner productivity, capacity utilisation and safety.
The special category achievements were as follows:
- Best SDL/LHD productivity: Kajora Area – 62.25 tonnes per day (TPD)
- Best Continuous Miner productivity: Jhanjra Area – 1,142.56 TPD
- Best capacity utilisation: Kunustoria Area – 50.44%
- Best safety performance: Rajmahal Area
