New Delhi: Engineers India Limited (EIL), one of India’s leading engineering consultancy and EPC companies, has appointed Atul Gupta as its new Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) with effect from June 29, 2026. The appointment follows a communication from the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG) and was formally noted and approved by the company’s Board of Directors during its meeting held on June 29.
The development marks a significant leadership transition for the state-owned engineering major after the retirement of former CMD Vartika Shukla. Gupta, who was serving as Director (Commercial) before taking over the top position, assumed charge on the afternoon of June 29, 2026.
Atul Gupta Takes Charge as CMD of Engineers India Limited
According to EIL’s regulatory filing with the BSE Limited and the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE), the Board approved Gupta’s assumption of charge as Chairman & Managing Director in compliance with the directions received from the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas.
Gupta officially assumed office on June 29, 2026, and will continue as CMD until his superannuation on October 31, 2029, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
With his appointment, the additional charge held by Praveen M. Khanooja (IA&AS), Additional Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, has been withdrawn. Khanooja had been overseeing the CMD responsibilities following the retirement of Vartika Shukla on February 28, 2026.

During the meeting, the Board formally took note of the Ministry’s communication and approved Gupta’s assumption of charge as Chairman & Managing Director.
Appointment Complies with SEBI Regulations
Engineers India Limited confirmed that the appointment has been made in accordance with all applicable regulatory requirements.
The company stated that the appointment complies with:
- SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015
- SEBI Master Circular dated January 30, 2026
- Applicable corporate governance norms for listed public sector enterprises
EIL further clarified that:
- Atul Gupta is not debarred by SEBI or any other statutory authority from holding the office of director.
- There is no inter-se relationship among the directors of the company.
- All necessary disclosures have been submitted to the stock exchanges.

Atul Gupta is a highly experienced engineering professional with more than 30 years of service at Engineers India Limited.
He holds a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in Mechanical Engineering from Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT), Pantnagar.
Gupta joined Engineers India Limited in 1992 as a Management Trainee and has steadily risen through the organization by handling several key technical and commercial assignments.
