Bhiwadi, Rajasthan: A man impersonating an IPS officer was arrested by the Phoolbagh police in Bhiwadi, Khairthal district, after attempting to assert authority at the police station and demand special privileges. The accused, identified as Saurabh Kumar (34), a resident of Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, and currently living in Delhi, was found to be a software engineer by profession.
The Incident: Fake Officer Arrives at Police Station
According to Phoolbagh SHO Sachin Sharma, the accused arrived at the police station on Friday night in a black Scorpio car with “Police” written on it. Claiming to be an IPS officer posted in the Special Protection Group (SPG) at AIG/IG rank, he told the sentry that he was on a “special mission” and requested arrangements for a hotel room to stay overnight.
The sentry, suspicious of the man’s claims, immediately informed the SHO. The police made Saurabh Kumar sit in a cabin and began verifying his credentials while the Bhiwadi SP was alerted.
Verification Reveals the Fraud
Police investigations quickly revealed –
- No IPS officer named Saurabh Kumar is posted in the SPG.
- The ID card he presented, claiming SPG and AIG affiliation, was completely fake.
During questioning, the accused admitted that he had detailed knowledge of IPS security protocols and facilities, which he used to create a false identity and manipulate people.
Modus Operandi of the Accused
Police stated that Saurabh Kumar took advantage of his understanding of IPS officers’ facilities –
- He created a fake IPS identity card.
- Wrote “Police” on his car to project authority.
- Intimidated and impressed people in multiple locations by claiming to be a high-ranking officer.
SHO Sachin Sharma said the quick thinking and vigilance of the Bhiwadi police were instrumental in uncovering the fraud.
Accused Taken into Custody
The accused, a software engineer by profession, has been taken into custody. Police have started further proceedings to investigate the full extent of his activities. During interrogation, Saurabh Kumar confessed to the scheme, acknowledging that he had used his technical knowledge and awareness of security protocols to facilitate the impersonation.
The police emphasized that this case highlights the importance of vigilance at checkpoints and the need to verify credentials before granting privileges, even to individuals claiming authority.
