Dehradun: Pushkar Singh Dhami, Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, attended a Soldiers’ Felicitation Ceremony in Khatima, located in Udham Singh Nagar district, on April 9. The event marked the sixth death anniversary of his father, Subedar Late Sher Singh Dhami.

During the ceremony, the Chief Minister paid heartfelt tribute to brave soldiers and honoured the families of martyrs for their sacrifices and service to the nation. The event saw participation from serving soldiers, ex-servicemen, and local residents.

Tribute to Martyrs and Support for Armed Forces Families

Highlighting the importance of supporting the armed forces community, Dhami reiterated the government’s commitment to the welfare of soldiers and their families. He acknowledged the invaluable contribution of martyrs and veterans in safeguarding the country’s integrity.

The ceremony served as a platform to recognize the courage and dedication of military personnel while strengthening ties between the administration and the armed forces community.

Inauguration of Soldiers’ Facilitation Centre and CSD Canteen

On the occasion, Dhami inaugurated a Soldiers’ Facilitation Centre and a Canteen Stores Department (CSD) canteen aimed at benefiting serving soldiers, ex-servicemen, and their families in the region.

To highlight its usefulness, the Chief Minister personally purchased items from the CSD canteen, demonstrating how it would serve the daily needs of military families in Khatima and nearby areas.

CM Launches All India Police Water Sports Championship

A day earlier, on April 8, Dhami virtually inaugurated the 25th edition of the All India Police Water Sports Cluster Championship at the Water Sports and Adventure Institute in Tehri Garhwal.

The championship, organized by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), is being held at Wasai in Tehri from April 8 to April 12, set against the scenic backdrop of Tehri Lake.

Over 50 Competitions to Promote Sportsmanship and Unity

Speaking on the occasion, Dhami noted that the championship will feature 51 competitions across various disciplines, including rowing, canoeing, and trekking.

“I wish all the best to the teams taking part in this competition,” he said, emphasizing the importance of sports in fostering discipline, unity, and national integration.

Senior officials, including Shatrujeet Kapur, were present at the inauguration ceremony.

Boost to Adventure Sports and Police Capabilities

The event aims to showcase the capabilities of police forces in water sports while promoting adventure tourism in Uttarakhand. With its picturesque setting, Tehri Lake provides an ideal venue for such national-level competitions.

The initiative reflects the state government’s continued efforts to encourage sports, tourism, and community engagement across the region.
