Firozabad (Uttar Pradesh): In a significant step towards empowering girls through education, the Firozabad Basic Education Department has launched a unique initiative that will enable students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) to prepare for prestigious competitive examinations such as the IAS, PCS, SSC, IIT and police recruitment while continuing their regular school education.

The initiative aims to bridge the opportunity gap for girls from economically weaker families by providing free coaching and expert guidance within government residential schools. Officials believe the programme will help talented students pursue ambitious career goals that often remain out of reach due to financial constraints.

Free Coaching Alongside Regular School Education

Under the new programme, students of Classes 9 to 12 studying in Kasturba Gandhi residential schools will attend special coaching sessions after regular school hours.

These additional classes have been designed to help students prepare for a range of competitive examinations and career paths based on their individual interests. Subject experts and experienced teachers have been identified to conduct these sessions, ensuring that students receive structured guidance without having to enrol in expensive private coaching institutes.

The initiative has already been rolled out, and classes have commenced.

Preparation for IAS, PCS, IIT, SSC and Police Recruitment

Firozabad Basic Education Officer (BSA) Anil Parihar said the programme was conceived after observing that many girls studying in Kasturba Gandhi schools aspire to become civil servants and professionals but often lack access to quality coaching.

Speaking about the initiative, he said students will now receive coaching for examinations including:

  • IAS (Indian Administrative Service)
  • PCS (Provincial Civil Services)
  • SSC examinations
  • IIT entrance examinations
  • Police recruitment examinations

Students will have the freedom to choose the stream or examination they wish to prepare for, allowing them to shape their careers according to their interests and aspirations.

Opportunity for Girls from Economically Weaker Families

The Basic Education Department believes that financial limitations should not become a barrier to quality education or career opportunities.

By integrating competitive examination coaching into government schools, the department hopes to create a level playing field for girls who otherwise may not have access to specialised coaching facilities.

Officials said the initiative is intended to help students from underprivileged backgrounds compete confidently with their peers and pursue careers in administration, engineering, government services and other professional fields.

Sports Aspirants Also to Receive Special Training

The programme is not limited to academic and competitive examinations.

According to the department, students interested in building careers in sports will also receive specialised coaching. Physical education teachers will provide training and help talented girls participate in sporting activities and competitions, enabling them to explore multiple career avenues.

Initiative Begins with Around 200 Students

The scheme has initially been launched for approximately 200 girl students studying in Kasturba Gandhi residential schools across Firozabad district.

The department plans to expand the programme further so that a larger number of students can benefit from free career-oriented coaching in the coming years.

Education officials believe the initiative will play an important role in nurturing future civil servants, engineers, sportspersons and government officers emerging from government schools.

A Step Towards Educational Empowerment

The initiative has received appreciation locally for its focus on providing equal educational opportunities to girls from disadvantaged backgrounds. By combining formal education with career-oriented coaching, the Basic Education Department aims to ensure that government school students are equipped to compete successfully in some of the country’s most prestigious examinations.

If implemented effectively and expanded, the programme could become a model for integrating competitive examination preparation within the government school system, helping more girls turn their aspirations into reality.
