New Delhi: Renowned former IAS officer G Asok Kumar (1991 batch, Telangana cadre) has been appointed as an Independent Director on the Board of Kannur International Airport Ltd (KIAL). The move brings a distinguished governance expert and water conservation champion into the civil aviation space once again.
G Asok Kumar, who retired in 2024 as Mission Director of the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), is widely celebrated for spearheading one of India’s most impactful campaigns—”Catch the Rain”, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on World Water Day (March 22) as part of the Jal Shakti Abhiyan.

One of the most telling acknowledgments of his grassroots impact came in 2006, when a village in Kadapa district of undivided Andhra Pradesh was named “Asok Nagar” by then Chief Minister Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy. The move honored Kumar’s role in fast-tracking development in the region during his tenure as District Collector.
