Industrial Plot Allotment Case: Deoria Court Extends Judicial Custody of Former IPS Amitabh Thakur Till Jan 21 Amid Serious Health Concerns

Former IPS officer Amitabh Thakur’s judicial custody has been extended till January 21 by a Deoria court, even as his health condition remains serious after he complained of severe chest pain in jail and was shifted to SGPGI Lucknow for advanced treatment.

Deoria/Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: Former IPS officer Amitabh Thakur continues to remain at the centre of legal and medical attention in Uttar Pradesh as a Deoria court on Wednesday extended his judicial custody till January 21, even as his health condition reportedly remains serious following complaints of severe chest pain while lodged in Deoria district jail.

According to official sources and court proceedings, Thakur was denied immediate relief by the court, while medical authorities shifted him to Lucknow’s Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) for advanced treatment amid concerns of a possible cardiac complication.

Custody Extended in Deoria Industrial Plot Allotment Case

The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in Deoria extended Amitabh Thakur’s judicial custody after rejecting his plea seeking cancellation of remand.

The court directed that he remain in custody until January 21, citing the seriousness of the allegations and the ongoing judicial process.

Thakur was earlier sent to judicial custody in connection with an industrial plot allotment case, in which he is accused of misusing his official position during his tenure in the police service.

Investigating agencies allege that while serving as a senior police officer, Thakur fraudulently facilitated the allotment of an industrial plot in the name of his wife, leading to criminal proceedings under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Deoria Industrial Plot Allotment Case: Arrest and Charges Framed Against the Former IPS Officer 

Amitabh Thakur was arrested on January 10 after a detailed investigation into the industrial plot allotment matter. 

The case was registered following a complaint and subsequent inquiry that pointed towards alleged irregularities in land allotment procedures.

Police sources confirmed that charges were registered under IPC Sections 419, 420, 467, 468, and 471, which relate to cheating, forgery, and use of forged documents. 

After his arrest, Thakur was produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody at the Deoria district jail.

Health Deteriorates Inside Jail, Complains of Severe Chest Pain

While lodged in Deoria jail, Thakur’s health reportedly deteriorated late Tuesday night when he complained of severe chest pain, restlessness, and discomfort. 

Jail authorities immediately shifted him to the Deoria Medical College for preliminary treatment.

Given the seriousness of his condition, doctors referred him to Gorakhpur Medical College, and later, he was transferred to Lucknow for advanced cardiac evaluation and specialised care.

Shifted to SGPGI Lucknow, Condition Reported Serious

Medical officials confirmed that Amitabh Thakur is currently admitted to the cardiology department at SGPGI, Lucknow, one of the state’s premier medical institutions. His condition is described as serious but stable, and he is under constant observation.

A special team of four senior doctors has been assigned to monitor his condition. According to hospital sources, multiple medical tests are being conducted repeatedly to rule out or confirm any cardiac emergency.

Doctors are closely monitoring vital parameters amid suspicion of a heart-related complication, though no official medical bulletin has yet confirmed a heart attack.

Court Rejects Remand Cancellation Plea Despite Medical Grounds

Despite Thakur’s medical condition, the CJM court rejected his plea seeking cancellation of judicial remand. 

The court observed that medical treatment could continue under custody and that the legal process must proceed as per established norms.

The court has also directed jail and medical authorities to ensure that Thakur receives adequate medical care during his treatment period.

Amitabh Thakur, a former IPS officer, has remained a controversial figure during and after his service, often making headlines for his outspoken views and legal disputes. His arrest and subsequent health scare have once again brought public attention to his long-running confrontations with the administrative and legal system.

Legal experts note that the coming days will be crucial both for the progress of the case and for Thakur’s health, as further court hearings are expected after January 21.
