Indian Masterminds Stories

New Delhi: In a major boost to India’s petrochemical infrastructure, GAIL (India) Limited has successfully received its first-ever shipment of Paraxylene (PX) at the Mangalore Port. This landmark delivery ensures a steady supply of a critical feedstock and strengthens the operational efficiency of GAIL’s downstream petrochemical units.

The milestone is aligned with the strategic vision of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, led by Union Minister Mr. Hardeep Singh Puri and Minister of State Mr. Suresh Gopi, as India works to fortify its domestic energy and chemical supply chains.

A Collaborative Effort Across Divisions

The smooth arrival, berthing, and offloading of the Paraxylene cargo were achieved through coordinated efforts across multiple GAIL divisions:

  • International Gas Sourcing: Secured the Paraxylene shipment through global trade channels.
  • Southern Region Teams: Managed logistics and port operations efficiently at Mangalore.
  • GAIL Mangalore Petrochemicals Limited (GMPL): Ensured technical readiness to integrate the feedstock into production without delays.

The seamless collaboration among these teams enabled the safe and timely handling of Paraxylene, a key raw material used in polyester fibers and PET plastic bottles.

  • Increased Production Efficiency: Supports operational stability at GMPL and associated units.
  • Promotion of “Make in India”: Contributes to the domestic production of essential chemicals for the textile and packaging sectors.

This milestone lays the groundwork for future expansion in India’s petrochemical industry and highlights GAIL’s ability to execute complex international logistics operations effectively.
