New Delhi: GAIL (India) Limited has appointed Manoj Kumar Sharma, Executive Director at Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), as Director (Projects).
The appointment follows his nomination by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. GAIL’s Board approved his appointment as an Additional Director with effect from the date he assumes charge as Director (Projects).
His tenure will continue until April 30, 2031, the date of his superannuation, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The GAIL Board approved Sharma’s appointment on September 18, 2026, following his nomination by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

Who is Manoj Kumar Sharma?
Manoj Kumar Sharma is a senior oil and gas sector professional with more than three decades of experience in project management, engineering, procurement, construction, operations and maintenance.
He has held several senior positions at Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), including Executive Director (Projects) in the Pipelines Division and Executive Director and Regional Head of Eastern Region Pipelines.
His professional experience covers major hydrocarbon pipeline networks, terminals and related infrastructure projects.
Manoj Kumar Sharma’s Educational Qualifications
Sharma holds the following qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Production & Industrial Engineering) from Delhi College of Engineering
- Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management from Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB)
His academic background combines engineering expertise with management education.
Sharma’s Experience at IOCL
At IOCL, Sharma served as Executive Director (Projects), Pipelines Division, where he was involved in engineering, procurement and construction management for major pipeline projects.
His responsibilities covered projects involving:
- Oil pipelines
- LPG pipelines
- Natural gas pipelines
- Engineering and procurement
- Construction management
- Pipeline infrastructure projects in India and overseas
He also served as Executive Director and Regional Head, Eastern Region Pipelines at IOCL.
In this role, he oversaw operations, maintenance, construction and city gas distribution businesses across five states, managing a pipeline network of more than 5,700 km.
Sharma’s Board-Level Experience
Manoj Kumar Sharma has also served as a Nominee Director representing IOCL on the boards of several pipeline companies.
These include:
- GSPL India Transco Limited (GITL)
- GSPL India Gasnet Limited (GIGL)
- Kochi Salem Pipeline Private Limited (KSPPL)
His board-level experience adds to his background in managing major energy infrastructure and pipeline projects.
GAIL Confirms Compliance Details
GAIL said that Sharma has no inter-se relationship with the other directors of the company.
The company also confirmed that he is not debarred from holding the office of Director by any statutory authority.
The appointment forms part of GAIL’s regulatory disclosures under the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
