New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has transferred senior AGMUT-cadre IPS officer Gaurav Sharma (IPS: 2009: AGMUT) from Ladakh to the Delhi segment of the Joint AGMUT cadre.
The transfer has been ordered with immediate effect and will remain in force until further orders. The move places Sharma back in the Delhi segment of the cadre after his posting in Ladakh.

The order does not specify a particular posting or assignment in Delhi. It only records the transfer between the Ladakh and Delhi segments of the Joint AGMUT cadre.
Who Is Gaurav Sharma?
Gaurav Sharma is a 2009-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre. The Ministry of Home Affairs promoted him to the DIGP grade (Level 13A) with effect from January 1, 2023, or from the date of assumption of charge, whichever was later. The MHA promotion order listed Sharma among the AGMUT-cadre officers promoted to the DIGP grade. He holds an M.Phil and an LLB degree.
Sharma has served in Delhi Police during his career. A Delhi Police record updated in March 2023 listed him as Additional Commissioner of Police, Headquarters, at Delhi Police Headquarters.
The Election Commission of India also listed Sharma as an AGMUT-cadre IPS officer of the 2009 batch, with his cadre segment recorded as Delhi, in its list of deployed police observers.
Sharma’s Ladakh Posting
Sharma was transferred from Delhi to Ladakh in September 2024. He was subsequently posted as DIG, Leh-Kargil Range, against an available vacant post at the Ladakh Police Headquarters in November 2024.
In April 2026, reports said he was attached to the Ladakh Police Headquarters. A subsequent report on MHA’s administrative review noted that Sharma had earlier been transferred to Leh and had spent an extended period away from the posting citing health-related reasons.
The latest order moves Sharma from the Ladakh segment to the Delhi segment of this joint cadre, with the transfer taking effect immediately and continuing until further orders.
