India-Myanmar Security Dialogue: Major Push Against Cross-Border Crime Terrorism, Drug Trafficking and Cybercrime

India and Myanmar concluded the 23rd National Level Meeting in New Delhi, strengthening bilateral security cooperation against terrorism, insurgency, narcotics trafficking, cybercrime, and other cross-border crimes while reaffirming their commitment to border peace and stability.

New Delhi: India-Myanmar security dialogue received a major boost after the 23rd National Level Meeting between the two countries concluded in New Delhi. During the two-day meeting, both sides reviewed the progress of existing bilateral dialogue mechanisms and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation against cross-border security threats. The talks focused on improving coordination to maintain peace, stability, and security along the India-Myanmar border, according to India’s Ministry of Home Affairs.

The Government of India and the Government of Myanmar held the 23rd National Level Meeting in New Delhi over two days.

Officials reviewed the progress made under existing bilateral dialogue mechanisms and discussed new ways to improve cooperation on security-related issues.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), both countries discussed stronger cooperation to fight transnational crimes. The discussions covered:

  • Terrorism
  • Insurgency
  • Narcotics trafficking
  • Arms smuggling
  • Human trafficking
  • Wildlife trafficking
  • Cybercrime
  • Other forms of organised crime

During the meeting, the Myanmar delegation assured India that its territory would not be allowed to be used against India’s security interests. Both countries also reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace, stability, and security along the shared border.

India and Myanmar share a long international border, making close coordination essential for regional security. Regular high-level meetings help both countries improve intelligence sharing, strengthen border management, and jointly tackle cross-border crimes that affect people on both sides of the border.
