A part of an under-construction tunnel collapsed at Khooni Nala in the Makerkote area of Ramban at Jammu–Srinagar National Highway, where at least 13 labourers were trapping and three of whom were rescued.
In the rescue efforts that continued late till Friday evening, the ITBP personnel safely rescued stranded drivers of earth movers & support staff involved in debris clearing operation after a fresh landslide.
“Rescue operations are still halted due to rain and shooting stones,” the ITBP said in an update at about 9 pm.
J&K Disaster Management Authority had earlier informed that multiple people are feared to be trapped under the debris. District Development Commissioner Mussarat Islam noted that one body was recovered from the debris while 9 people are still trapped.
