Indian Masterminds Stories

Ranchi: The Chief Minister’s Maiyan Samman Yojana is empowering women in Jharkhand’s capital, Ranchi, by promoting income-generating activities and self-employment. According to district administration data, 67,752 women were connected to various livelihood initiatives under the scheme in 2025, enhancing their income and contributing to their families’ economic stability. The program aims to involve one lakh women by 2026, further boosting women’s economic empowerment.

Income Boost through Poultry, Duck, and Goat Rearing

Under the Maiyan Samman Yojana, women are encouraged to take up poultry, duck, and goat rearing to generate steady income. The district administration provided:

  • 27,644 women with chicks for chicken farming
  • 21,521 women with support for duck rearing
  • 16,105 women with assistance for goat rearing

These initiatives are helping rural and urban women earn a reliable livelihood while actively contributing to household income.

Livelihood Opportunities through Egg Production

In addition to animal husbandry, egg production has also been promoted as a low-cost, high-return livelihood activity. 2,482 women are now engaged in egg production, earning income near their homes and meeting the daily needs of their families efficiently.

Training and Technical Support Provided

The district administration ensures that women are not just provided resources but also trained by experts in poultry, goat rearing, and egg production. Training includes technical guidance on improving production, managing small businesses, and accessing markets. This ensures women can sell their products at fair prices and maximize their earnings.

Regular Monitoring and Review at Block Level

To ensure effective implementation, the district administration conducts regular reviews at the block level. Block Development Officers (BDOs) and Circle Officers (COs) receive specific instructions to monitor the progress and address issues promptly, guaranteeing smooth execution of the program.

Target to Empower 1 Lakh Women by 2026

Ranchi District Collector Manjunath Bhajantri stated that the program aims to make approximately one lakh women self-reliant by 2026. With continuous support, training, and market access, the Maiyan Samman Yojana is significantly transforming the socio-economic landscape for women in Ranchi and surrounding areas.
