In a tragic incident, an Income Tax department official was killed in the Manipur violence that has erupted between two groups leading to a “shoot at sight” order.
According to media reports, Mr Letminthang Haokip was Tax Assistant in Imphal. He was dragged out of his house and killed.
The Indian Revenue Service (IRS) Association has condemned the officer’s killing. Expressing grief on his demise, IRS Association wrote on Twitter, “IRS Association strongly condemns the dastardly act of violence resulting in the death of Sh. Letminthang Haokip, Tax Assistant in Imphal.”
“No cause or ideology can justify the killing of an innocent public servant on duty. Our thoughts are with his family in this difficult hour,” it further said.
A ‘Shoot-at-sight’ order has already been issued in ‘extreme cases’ to contain the spiraling violence that has displaced over 9,000 people from their villages.
