Kolkata: Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE) has celebrated its elevation to Navratna status by releasing a Special Cover with Cancellation and My Stamp, marking a significant milestone in the company’s journey as one of India’s leading defence shipbuilders.

The Special Cover was released on July 17, 2026, by Mr. Ashok Kumar, Chief Postmaster General, West Bengal Circle, in the presence of senior officials from GRSE and India Post.

The ceremony also reflected GRSE’s inclusive work culture, with the company’s senior-most employee, Mr. Bikash Das (Security Havildar), and youngest officer, Mr. Rup Pratim Ghatak (Assistant Manager) participating in the event.

GRSE Marks Navratna Milestone with Special Cover

The commemorative Special Cover celebrates GRSE’s recent recognition as a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) by the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE), Ministry of Finance, in June 2026.

The Navratna status recognises the company’s consistent financial performance, operational excellence, and strategic importance in India’s defence and shipbuilding sectors.

The upgraded status provides GRSE with greater financial and operational autonomy to pursue expansion projects and strategic investments.

  • Profit After Tax (PAT): Rose from ₹190 crore to ₹748 crore
  • Revenue grew nearly four times over the five-year period

The consistent growth played a key role in the company receiving Navratna status.

  • 30 additional marine platforms

Navratna Status to Accelerate Expansion Plans

With its new Navratna status, GRSE will have greater flexibility to undertake large-scale investments.

The company plans to:

  • Expand shipbuilding capacity through brownfield and greenfield projects
  • Take on larger naval and commercial shipbuilding contracts
  • Strengthen exports
  • Support the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat, Make in India, and Make for the World initiatives

The enhanced autonomy is expected to improve operational efficiency and accelerate future growth.

What Navratna Status Means for GRSE

Navratna status enables eligible Central Public Sector Enterprises to make larger investment decisions without requiring prior government approval, allowing faster expansion and improved competitiveness.

For GRSE, the recognition is expected to strengthen its leadership in defence shipbuilding while opening new opportunities in commercial shipbuilding and global markets.
