Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Mr. Bhupendra Patel announced that the state undertook development works worth over Rs. 4,870 crore in January 2026 alone. These projects aim to enhance infrastructure, urban living, and public amenities across the state.
Surat Receives Rs. 342 Crore in Development Works
In Surat, the Chief Minister inaugurated projects worth Rs. 173.78 crore and laid foundation stones for works worth Rs. 169 crore, collectively amounting to Rs. 342 crore. The initiatives cover urban infrastructure, public housing, and cultural spaces, reinforcing Surat’s position as a model city.

Redevelopment of 1,304 Gotalawadi Housing Units Completed
Under the Public Housing Redevelopment Scheme–2016, 1,304 tenements in Gotalawadi, Katargam, were redeveloped through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP). CM Patel inaugurated the units and conducted a computerized draw for beneficiaries, ensuring safe, modern, and comfortable housing for local families.
Surat Emerges as a Model of Urban Development
The Chief Minister highlighted Surat as a city excelling in cleanliness, green mobility, sustainable development, and urban planning. Known as the Diamond and Textile Capital, Surat has become a “Mini India,” attracting migrants for employment and contributing significantly to Gujarat’s economic growth.
Focus on Clean Energy and Environmental Sustainability
Surat Municipal Corporation has embraced solar energy, generating 28.5% of its power requirements and saving Rs. 10 crore annually. The Tapi Purification Project, costing Rs. 931 crore, prevents industrial wastewater from reaching the Tapi River, making Surat a benchmark for urban environmental initiatives.
Infrastructure Projects for Culture, Education, and Health
CM Patel inaugurated the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Auditorium in Dabholi at Rs. 70 crore and the Jiav Budia Lake Garden at Rs. 12.66 crore. A 10 MW solar power plant in Vithodar, Urban Health Centers, and shelter homes were also inaugurated, promoting sustainable urban living and public welfare.
Deputy CM Harsh Sanghavi Highlights Equal Development
Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Harsh Sanghavi emphasized that government and local administration efforts ensure balanced development across all areas of Surat, including Katargam, Varachha, and Mota Varachha. A new Rs. 70 crore library in Katargam will serve thousands of youth in the coming months.

CM Patel stressed that these projects are designed not just for today but for future generations. Residents are encouraged to maintain public assets responsibly, ensuring long-term benefits for the community.

The inauguration and foundation-laying event saw the participation of Union Minister Mr. C.R. Patil, Finance Minister Mr. Kanubhai Desai, MPs, MLAs, municipal officials, corporators, and citizens, marking a milestone in Gujarat’s urban development journey.
