Gujarat: India’s largest automobile manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India Limited has signed a major Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gujarat government to establish Advanced Manufacturing Labs (AMLs) in five Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the state. The initiative aims to equip youth with industry-ready skills aligned with modern manufacturing needs and strengthen employment opportunities.
The agreement has been signed with the Gujarat Directorate of Employment and Training (DET).
Advanced Manufacturing Labs to Be Set Up in 5 Gujarat ITIs
Under the MoU, Advanced Manufacturing Labs will be developed in ITIs located at:
- Palanpur
- Bhavnagar
- Surendranagar
- Godhra
- Dahod
These labs will offer hands-on training in advanced industrial processes, helping students gain practical exposure to real factory-like environments.
Focus on Skill India Mission and Industry-Ready Training
The initiative is aligned with the Skill India Mission, aimed at enhancing employability through vocational training.
Students will receive practical training in key manufacturing areas such as:
- Assembly
- Welding
- Painting
- Machining
- Mechatronics
- Industrial safety
The objective is to bridge the gap between classroom education and real industry requirements, making students job-ready for the evolving manufacturing sector.
Maruti Suzuki Expands Manufacturing Footprint in Gujarat
Along with skill development initiatives, Maruti Suzuki is rapidly expanding its production capacity in Gujarat.
Key developments include:
- Launch of the fourth production line at Hansalpur plant
- Increase in annual production capacity from 7.5 lakh to 10 lakh vehicles
- New 10 lakh-vehicle capacity plant in Sanand
Once both projects are completed, Maruti Suzuki’s total manufacturing capacity in Gujarat will reach 20 lakh vehicles per year.
Employment Opportunities to Grow Across Automotive Ecosystem
Maruti Suzuki Senior Executive Officer Rahul Bharti stated that every new manufacturing plant creates a wider industrial ecosystem that requires a skilled workforce.
He emphasized that the Advanced Manufacturing Labs will play a crucial role in making youth employable and meeting the rising demand for skilled professionals in the automobile sector.
Gujarat Government Welcomes Skill Development Initiative
Gujarat Employment and Training Director Stuti Charan welcomed the initiative, stating that Maruti Suzuki has consistently contributed to skill development in India.
She said the project will help bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements, strengthening Gujarat’s position as a major hub for the automobile industry and generating better career opportunities for youth.
Maruti Suzuki Expands AML Network Across India
Currently, Maruti Suzuki is supporting 31 ITIs across India and has already established 18 Advanced Manufacturing Labs.
With the addition of five new labs in Gujarat, the total number of AMLs will increase to 23, spanning across states such as:
- Gujarat
- Haryana
- Uttar Pradesh
- Bihar
- Madhya Pradesh
- Punjab
- Chandigarh (UT)
Youth to Be Trained for Future Industrial Needs
Experts believe that the automotive industry is rapidly shifting toward advanced technologies, making practical and industry-oriented training essential.
