Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has approved road infrastructure projects worth ₹692 crore in Kutch and Banaskantha districts under its High-Speed Corridor initiative, with a focus on improving connectivity for villages, industries, farms and tourist destinations.
The projects will widen and upgrade key road stretches, making travel safer and faster while improving the movement of goods and heavy vehicles. The initiative is also expected to strengthen access to important pilgrimage and tourism centres in the Kutch region.
₹363 Crore Allocated for Three Kutch Roads
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has approved ₹363 crore for widening and upgrading three important roads in Kutch. The existing seven-metre roads will be expanded to 10 metres to improve traffic flow and safety.
The projects cover:
- Pandhro–Narayan Sarovar road
- Lakhpat–Narayan Sarovar road
- Dayapar–Subhashpar–Pandhro road
These routes are important for local residents as well as visitors travelling towards pilgrimage and tourism destinations in the region.
The planned upgrades are expected to make journeys to places such as Narayan Sarovar and Koteshwar more convenient. Better road access could also support tourism-related activity in surrounding areas by improving connectivity between major routes, religious centres and nearby destinations.
Banaskantha to Get a Major Road Upgrade
Another ₹229 crore has been allocated for the Shihori–Patan road in Banaskantha district.
The road will be widened to 10 metres and upgraded to four lanes. The expansion is expected to improve the movement of vehicles along the route and provide better connectivity for communities located in the surrounding areas.
The project also has an economic dimension. According to the government, improved road infrastructure will help heavy vehicles travel more safely and efficiently towards nearby industrial and commercial areas.
For villages along these routes, better connectivity can mean easier access to markets, services and employment centres.
Better Roads to Support Agriculture and Industry
