BHEL Board Approves ₹65 Crore Further Equity Investment in NTPC-BHEL Joint Venture NBPPL

The additional investment will strengthen BHEL’s 50% stake in NTPC BHEL Power Projects, which undertakes power plant EPC contracts and equipment manufacturing in India and abroad.

New Delhi: State-owned engineering company Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has approved a further equity investment of ₹65 crore in NTPC BHEL Power Projects Private Limited (NBPPL), its joint venture with NTPC Limited.

The decision was approved by BHEL’s Board of Directors at its meeting held on September 14, 2026, according to the company’s exchange filing.

BHEL Approves ₹65 Crore Equity Investment in NBPPL

The BHEL Board has approved an additional investment of ₹65 crore, which will be made in one or more tranches as BHEL’s equity contribution to NBPPL.

Key details of the investment include:

  • Investment amount: ₹65 crore
  • Investing company: BHEL
  • Joint venture: NTPC BHEL Power Projects Private Limited
  • JV partner: NTPC Limited
  • Shareholding: 50:50 between BHEL and NTPC
  • Investment mode: Equity contribution in one or more tranches

BHEL stated that its 50 per cent shareholding in the joint venture will be maintained following the additional investment.

NBPPL Focuses on Power Plant EPC and Equipment Manufacturing

NTPC BHEL Power Projects Private Limited was incorporated in April 2008 as a joint venture between BHEL and NTPC.

The primary objective of the joint venture is to undertake Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contracts for power plants and other infrastructure projects.

NBPPL is also engaged in the manufacturing and supply of power plant equipment in India and overseas markets.

The joint venture combines BHEL’s engineering and equipment manufacturing capabilities with NTPC’s expertise in power generation and project development.

BHEL and NTPC Hold Equal Stake in Joint Venture

NBPPL operates as a 50:50 joint venture between BHEL and NTPC Limited.

The additional equity contribution by BHEL will be made while retaining its existing 50 per cent ownership in the company.

The investment is expected to support NBPPL’s business activities and its role in executing power and infrastructure projects.

NBPPL Reports Declining Turnover in Recent Years

According to the information disclosed by BHEL, NBPPL recorded the following turnover figures:

  • FY 2025-26: ₹1.04 crore (provisional)
  • FY 2024-25: ₹3.48 crore
  • FY 2023-24: ₹18.19 crore

The additional equity investment comes as the joint venture continues to operate in the power plant EPC and equipment manufacturing segment.

BHEL Strengthens Commitment to Power Sector Projects

The additional investment in NBPPL reinforces BHEL’s continued involvement in India’s power infrastructure and project execution ecosystem.

Through its partnership with NTPC, BHEL is positioned to participate in power plant EPC activities and the manufacturing and supply of equipment for projects in India and international markets.
