Chandigarh: Punjab Jails and NRI Affairs Minister Dr Ravjot Singh has directed officials to accelerate ongoing development works in the Sham Churasi Assembly constituency and complete all projects within their stipulated timelines.
The minister reviewed the progress of various projects during a meeting with officials at the District Administrative Complex in Hoshiarpur on Monday. He stressed the need for regular monitoring, timely execution and strict adherence to quality standards so that development works deliver their intended benefits to residents.
The review covered projects being implemented by the Public Works, Irrigation, Education, Police, Water Supply and Sanitation and other departments.

Roads, Water and Education Among Key Priorities
The minister said the Punjab Government was focusing on a range of essential infrastructure and public services in Sham Churasi.
Key areas under focus include:
- Roads, streets and drainage
- Sewerage and drinking water facilities
- Education and health infrastructure
- Sports facilities and other basic amenities
These projects are expected to directly affect everyday life in the constituency, particularly through better roads, improved sanitation, access to drinking water and stronger public infrastructure.
The minister emphasised that development should translate into visible improvements for people rather than remain limited to project execution on paper.
Welfare Benefits and Public Grievances Also Reviewed
Along with physical infrastructure, Dr Ravjot Singh directed officials to ensure that all eligible beneficiaries receive the benefits of government welfare schemes.
He also called for prompt action on public grievances, stressing that officials should respond to people’s concerns without unnecessary delays.
The direction places emphasis on both development delivery and administrative responsiveness. Ensuring that eligible residents receive government benefits can help strengthen the impact of welfare programmes at the grassroots level.
Officials Asked to Maintain Accountability
Dr Ravjot Singh made it clear that negligence, carelessness or unnecessary delays in development works would not be tolerated.
Regular visits to project sites and closer coordination among departments will be important for maintaining timelines and addressing bottlenecks, particularly in projects involving multiple agencies.
The minister’s review also underlined the importance of maintaining quality standards while speeding up construction and other development activities.
Focus on Development in Sham Churasi
The review comes amid a wider focus on improving basic infrastructure and public services in the Sham Churasi Assembly constituency.
Projects related to roads, drainage, sewerage, drinking water, education, health and sports have a direct bearing on residents and local economic activity. Better connectivity and civic infrastructure can also support access to markets, educational institutions and employment opportunities.
The emphasis on site-level monitoring is aimed at ensuring that approved projects move from planning to completion within the expected timeframe.
Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain, SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik and officials from various departments attended the meeting.
The review signals a stronger focus on timely execution and accountability in Punjab’s local development works. By combining faster project implementation with quality monitoring, welfare delivery and grievance redressal, the administration aims to ensure that development spending produces visible and lasting benefits for residents of Sham Churasi.
