Chandigarh: The Haryana government has formally submitted a proposal to the Centre seeking a six-month service extension for Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi (IAS:1990:HY), who is scheduled to retire on June 30, 2025.
The request has been made under Rule 16 of the All India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefit) Rules, 1958, which allows a Chief Secretary to be granted an extension of up to six months with prior approval from the central government.
Rastogi was appointed to the top bureaucratic post in February 2025, following the elevation of his predecessor Vivek Joshi (IAS:1989:HY) as Election Commissioner of India. In addition to serving as Chief Secretary, Rastogi also holds the portfolio of Additional Chief Secretary, Finance and Planning.
If approved, the extension will ensure continuity in key administrative and fiscal matters ahead of the state’s upcoming policy deadlines.
