Bokaro: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has directed Bokaro Deputy Commissioner Ajay Nath Jha to initiate steps towards exploring the development of Sevati Valley in Kasmar block as a tourist destination.
During a visit to the valley on Tuesday, the Chief Minister assessed the area and its development potential. The visit has renewed attention on a long-standing local demand to develop the naturally scenic region for tourism.
Bermo Sub-Divisional Officer Manoj Kumar and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) block president Dilip Kumar Hembram were also present during the visit.
The district administration is now expected to examine the infrastructure requirements and development possibilities before preparing a proposal for consideration by the state government.
Bokaro Administration May Convene Meeting on Development Plan
Following the Chief Minister’s directions, the Bokaro district administration is preparing to convene a meeting of officials from the departments concerned to discuss the proposed development of Sevati Valley.

According to the report, officials likely to be involved include representatives from:
- Deputy Development Commissioner (DDC)
- Road Construction Department (RCD)
- Rural Works Department (REO)
- Circle Officer (CO)
- Block Development Officer (BDO)
- Engineers from the relevant departments
The proposed meeting is expected to examine the area’s development potential, basic infrastructure requirements and construction work that may be necessary.
A development proposal could subsequently be prepared and submitted to the state government. However, no formally approved tourism development plan or implementation timeline has been announced in the available report.
Sevati Valley’s Natural Setting Draws Attention
Located near the Jharkhand–West Bengal border, Sevati Valley is known for its natural landscape and scenic surroundings.
Local residents have long sought its development as a tourist destination. The latest visit by the Chief Minister has renewed expectations that the administration may take up the demand for consideration.
If a development plan is prepared and implemented, it could involve improvements to basic facilities and infrastructure. The nature and scale of any such work will depend on the proposals developed by the administration and decisions taken by the state government.
Local residents have also expressed hopes that tourism development could create employment and self-employment opportunities in Kasmar block. These remain potential benefits rather than outcomes of an approved project.
Hemant Soren Visits Kasmar During Personal Trip
The Chief Minister reached Kasmar on Tuesday morning after leaving his ancestral village, Nemra, accompanied by his wife, Kalpana Soren, who is also an MLA.
During the visit, he inspected the ongoing construction of the Kasmar–Barlanga road.
Soren and Kalpana also stopped for around 10 minutes at a tea-and-snack shop owned by Kunal Jaiswal at Tinkonia Chowk in Kasmar. They ate pakoras and shared them with local residents.
The Chief Minister said the visit was not part of an official programme and that he had come to the area for an outing.
On his return from Kasmar, Soren visited Sevati Valley and assessed the area, subsequently directing the Bokaro Deputy Commissioner to take the necessary steps towards exploring its development.
Tourism Proposal Awaits Further Administrative Action
The Chief Minister’s directions have brought Sevati Valley’s long-standing tourism demand back into focus.
The immediate next step is expected to involve consultations among the district administration and relevant departments to assess infrastructure requirements and prepare a possible development proposal.
