Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government has promoted five Indian Police Service (IPS) officers of the 1995 and 1996 batches to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP), effective January 1, 2026, in Level-16 of the Pay Matrix.
The promotions, announced on Wednesday, strengthen the senior leadership of the Himachal Pradesh Police and formalize the positions of officers serving both within the state and on central deputation.
Promotions from the 1995 Batch
From the 1995 batch, two officers have been promoted on a proforma basis as they are currently serving on central deputation –
- Satinder Pal Singh: Currently Additional Secretary, Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
- N Venugopal: Serving as Additional Director, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
These promotions recognize their seniority while allowing them to continue in their central roles.
Promotions from the 1996 Batch
From the 1996 batch, three officers have been promoted, two on a regular basis and one continuing in a central role:
- Satwant Atwal Trivedi: Serving as Additional Director General-cum-Commandant General, Home Guards, Civil Defence and Fire Services, Himachal Pradesh, promoted on a regular basis.
- Ajay Kumar Yadav: Posted as Principal Resident Commissioner, New Delhi, promoted on a regular basis.
- Abhishek Trivedi: Currently Additional Director General, Prisons and Correctional Services, Himachal Pradesh, promoted on a regular basis.
Significance of the Promotions
These promotions are a key administrative step to ensure continuity and strengthen the leadership structure within the Himachal Pradesh Police. Officers elevated to the DGP rank are entrusted with strategic decision-making, law and order management, and operational oversight across the state.
For officers on central deputation, such proforma promotions preserve their seniority while allowing them to continue serving in national-level roles.
