New Delhi: Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL), a leading PSU in the Indian mining sector, has appointed Mr. Sandeep Vasant Kadam as a part-time Official Director on its Board, effective immediately. The appointment follows a formal communication from the Ministry of Mines and replaces Mr. Dinesh Mahur, the former Joint Secretary, Ministry of Mines.
Leadership Change at Hindustan Zinc
Mr. Kadam, an IAS officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre, 2008 batch, currently serves as Joint Secretary-cum Mission Head at the National Critical Mineral Mission, Ministry of Mines. His appointment on HZL’s Board reflects the government’s focus on strengthening oversight and strategic leadership in critical mineral and mining enterprises.
Effective from January 19, 2026, Mr. Kadam assumes office as a part-time Official Director, and his tenure will continue until further notice. He brings with him a blend of administrative expertise and policy experience in the mining and mineral sector, especially in the area of critical minerals, a priority under India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat strategy.

Transition on the Board
Mr. Dinesh Mahur, also a Joint Secretary from the Ministry of Mines, has ceased to hold the part-time official director position on HZL’s Board, effective January 19, 2026. This transition ensures continuity in the Ministry’s representation on the Board while aligning with strategic initiatives such as critical mineral development and operational governance.
